Introduction: I am a social worker practicing on an adult surgery orthopedic ward within the Health Sciences Center (HSC). My role is to provide services to patients that have experienced musculoskeletal disorders. All have experienced a change in mobility whether temporary or permanently. Together with a multidisciplinary team we work with patients to get them to a new baseline or back to their previous baseline of mobility in order to promote independence and a safe discharge. Medical care, discharge and proper bed utilization is the primary focus within many hospitals. Often these patients need time to regain strength and ability to the affected area of their body.
