“What did I get myself into,” I said daunted to Mr. Billard. I looked around to see a group of my peers looking back at me. How am I supposed to be their leader? It was the first meeting for the Barnstable High School Drama Club backstage crew and the new assemblage of freshman arrived. After two years of sweat , blood, and tears , I was awarded my first ever leadership position. I was the “Paint Lead.” At that time, I was the youngest BHSDC officer ever! I was bright-eyed , invigorated , and ready to take on anything the theatre world had to throw at me. I wasn’t as ready as I thought I was. Despite my ineptitude, I eventually rose to the challenge of making exceptional theatre. At first, I felt completely mentally dislocated. Our first production was a haunted house. This required an ungodly amount of work that needed to be done by my inexperienced group of footsoldiers and I was dreading my leadership skills. I had to design a set, budget the paint, make sure my paint crew felt comfortable, construct the set, and I had to somehow find a way to eat, sleep, and do homework. The list could go on. This began my struggles with …show more content…
When I joined drama club , I wasn't sure where I fit in. I was a lanky , querulous, struggling with body image and sexuality, and I hardly knew what theatre even was. I had no idea the profound mark this club would have on me. Theatre saved my life. I found a group of people who accepted me for me , and I found my passion.
I was lucky enough to do five more shows with my crew that year. By the time I graduate , I’ll have over 25 shows as Paint Lead , twelve shows as Creative Associate , and six as Vice-President. I was doing my passion everyday after school with no breaks in between. When we would end one run of a show, and begin the rehearsal process for another. If there is one thing Matt Geiler is not, it’s lazy, thanks to the challenges I

For my final project, I chose to collaborate at the J-cat Cultural Arts Theater under the supervision of Michael Andron. The play that I collaborated on was called “Shrek the musical”. My initial duty in this play was to control the character’s microphones. However, due to low tech staffing, I was offered an open position in lighting, and even though I did not get the chance to be in the booth to control the microphones, I was able to see how both sound and lighting played an important role in this play. Ever since lighting rehearsals started, I was able to see how the lighting changes the mood of the scene and how each actor, when they were in the spotlight, had their own unique story to tell.…

Each person that I saw fade into the northern sunset as they made the trek up to Waco had one thing in common: they were passionate. I was passionate. I pick something that I want or like and I cling to it. I am a good friend of the Trossman family, but I am also a nursing student in my final year hoping to get a job as an RN in The Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) after I graduate. Over the past ten years I have formed strong relationships with families of children who require constant and complex medical care. Jacob Trossman and Taylor, Cole and Brody Florence are just the few I can name with permission. Prior to nursing school, the parents taught me the skills and knowledge needed to perform each child's needs in order to maintain safety as a priority during our outings. I was able to take them to the park, Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) and even sleepovers at my house without their parents being constantly worried how their children would manage without them nearby.…

The entire experience of acting has provided me with self-discipline and willpower that has changed me in a way nothing else ever could. And eventually, I did get the lead role I always wanted- but not in a play.…
