In verse 1 Paul writes ‘As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins’. “The death to which Paul referred was not physical death, as is clear from Paul’s description. Death is a metaphor for the existence of people who are alienated from God. Life is in God alone. Separation from God is death. For by grace we have been saved through faith (8-9)
Salvation is not our work for salvation was freely given to all, who believed through faith.
2.4. For we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works. (10)
God created us for a purpose to love and serve him, it is not our work that saved us.
3.0 Introduction
Redemption: Paul elaborate what is implied in it, through the work of Christ, by divine act, God has cleaned the ground upon which he recreates the spoiled creation. “The human predicament is described first from the Gentile perspective (2:1-2) which refer to Jews. They were formerly dead, in the estimation of God, since they had led their lives in transgressions and sins. Their lifestyle their code of behavior, had been determined according to this present worldly age, the selfish and competitive principle which underlies all cultures, all political and economic systems. “Paul wrote to expand the horizons of his readers, so that they might understand better the dimensions of God’s eternal purpose and grace and come to appreciate the high goals God has for the Church. The letter opens with a sequence of statements about God’s blessings, which are interspersed with a remarkable variety of expressions drawing attention to God’s wisdom, forethought and purpose.” In this letter Paul wants to show the steps towards their fulfillment first God has reconciled us back to himself as an act of grace, second God has reconciled saved people to each other. This is so because before Christ we were dead in sin but after Christ we have been made alive in Christ Jesus. This was not physical death but we were alienated from God and life is in God alone, separation from God is
