Despite believing she loves Frank, Eveline uses surprisingly neutral words to depict Frank and her affection for him. She uses descriptors such as “very kind, manly, openhearted” (Joyce 80), “elated” (89), and “pleasantly confused” (93). Moreover, after Eveline decides to leave with Frank, she cries out “Escape! She must escape! Frank would save her. He would give her life, perhaps love, too... Frank would take her in his arms, fold her in his arms. He would save her.” (136-140). Eveline does not use words such as love or embrace, but words like ‘life’, ‘save’, and ‘perhaps love’. Additionally, when Eveline arrives at the dock and slowly realizes that she should stay in Ireland, her interactions with Frank are described much more abusive with words like “seize” (156) and “shouted” (166). Furthermore, Eveline even stops using Frank’s name after she starts to disembark from the boat. She no longer refers to him as Frank, but just pronouns such as him and he (Carlson …show more content…

Every writer who takes the challenge and masters these techniques is capable of controlling this whirlwind; it only requires a strong thesis, convincing and relevant points, and solid support. Students can use these skills in writing papers for other classes, resumes, application, or even work emails. Practically everything a student write can be applied to what he or she has discovered by mastering good, effective

She looked round the room, reviewing all its familiar objects which she had dusted once a week for so many years…”(Joyce). Up until now, change has never touched her personal life. For all of her years, she has lived in the same place, done the same chores, and socialized with the same people. A thesis statement introduces the main idea of an essay. The thesis statement is typically located in the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. The thesis statement usually serves as the focus of your essay and should be developed, supported, and explained. Beyond the introduction of the main idea, the thesis statement tells the reader what to expect from the rest of the essay, foreshadows how “I” will depict the subject of discussion, and makes an arguable statement for the reader to interpret for themselves. To be a strong thesis statement, the thesis statement must follow four components: the thesis statement must be narrow and manageable, present your argument, foreshadow your essay, and present an arguable statement.…
