Howard's Core Value System Analysis

Improved Essays
Howard’s core value system shows prospective and current students how they should behave and how they will be judged. I’ve always been confident in my abilities to live up to an honor code, and I think that my values are in perfect alignment with Howard University’s.
I believe that excellence cannot be demonstrated through singular actions, but should be looked upon in context with all of your actions. I have shown excellence in my life through my work ethic, dedication to and passion for learning. Throughout my career in high school, I have simultaneously balanced three jobs, school work and a social life. I have struggled with this task at times, but it’s clear that I have prevailed. I have won multiple awards at work: at Chipotle, Most Dedicated; and at Starbucks, the MUG award. At school, I’ve won multiple language awards: three gold awards in the National Latin exam and National Spanish exam, one silver award in the National Latin exam, one bronze in the National Spanish exam and one award for Spanish communications. I’ve even won awards outside of school, like the silver award in the State Latin Day certamen competition. These awards not only demonstrate my dedication to everything I do, but they also show that I do these

Being nominated for the National Youth Leadership Convention in Washington D.C. gave me the opportunity to refine the skills that I had been slowly developing. Presently, I lead the National Latin Honors Society and the Junior Classical League at my school. I was voted for these positions because of my passion for the subject and my clear ability to handle all aspects of the job. My responsibilities include coordinating volunteers for fundraisers, developing lesson plans for club meetings, promoting classical interests and notifying members of upcoming meetings, events and fundraisers. I’m able to delegate tasks and lead efficiently, even with so many differences between the two

ASB Election Application 1. I am interested in running for Leadership for many reasons. I am approaching my senior year of high school and I regret not being involved as much in the school community. I don’t really have much planned so if I ended up being elected, I would avidly be involved in any activity I can in hopes to give back to a school I’ve been happy to call home for six years.…

Beginning my sophomore year of high school, I had the privilege to become a member of Alma Folklorica de Oklahoma. It is a Mexican folklorico dance group in which we perform different dances from different regions of Mexico. Through this group I have learned many lessons on what a leader does, who a leader is, and what being a leader looks like. Each year we have new members join, as senior members graduate out. Usually your first year as a member consists of learning regions, learning the costumes and accessories for each region, and looking up to the veteran members for any doubts we may have.…

Scholarship, service, leadership, and character are the characteristics that lay the foundation for success and are the reason why I perform at such a high degree in everything that I do. Although I’ve always had high ambitions for myself, the scholarship aspect of the National Honor Society confirms the importance of education and also reaffirms that anything is possible and it made easier with academic achievement. However, any achievement, academic or not, is meaningless to me if I don’t give back one way or another to the people who made my success possible including teachers, school staff members, fellow classmates, parents, and friends. On top of this, I learned that the smallest of gestures can make a big difference in someone’s life…

I have always been naturally inclined to leadership and helping others in group situations. My four years of high school have been spent not only in a classroom, but also out in front of my peers performing as an athlete. I have been involved in year-round sports, specifically, cheerleading and outdoor track and field. Over the course of freshman year, I soaked up as much information as I could to become both a better athlete and role model for both the girls on the team and students at my school. Sophomore year, I was named a captain for Junior Varsity Cheer, alongside another girl.…

Why me? This sort of self doubt and questioning is something that most everyone experiences. I started to ask this of myself when I read the letter I recently received from Seton Hall. “Why me?” is something I have repeatedly asked in past years also. People have told me since middle school how I am a natural leader, how people will follow me, but I was always hesitant to act on this.…

Rules and regulations shape the world in which we all live. There are rules for the road, for buildings, and the list goes on and on. This list also includes an honor code that students, faculty and staff must follow. Many schools have created their own code to ensure that the honesty and integrity that the school values are projected by those that are associated with their campus. Hofstra University has developed their own honor code to protect the university itself, and its students and faculty.…

The aptitude and conscientiousness to lead an ethical life of personal fulfillment that aspires to the greater good of humanity is my purpose in life. As a Boy Scout, and future Eagle Scout, I teach and inspire others to meet their goals and aspirations within the scouting program. I asked Emily if she felt she was intellectually curious and was pleased that her response included providing an example of a discussion that she was part of, outside of a classroom format (where in-depth verbal analysis might otherwise be a requirement for a high course grade). Emily seemed self-motivated to engage in the exchange of ideas both inside and outside of the classroom. Emily recounted a rap session with her friends when the group dissected the movie “Still Alice.” In the movie, a 50-year old Columbia University linguistics professor slowly fell silent as a result of her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Since Emily wants one day to be a physician, this conversation topic may have held particular interest for her.…

Definitions may become complex by the way some people interpret the concept of a word. Most times, people have similar interpretations, but certain words may also lead to a disagreement. For example, the definition of intelligence can be interpreted in various ways depending on the mindset of one being. (What is the need for a definition of intelligence?)My personal definition of intelligence is one who is able to be determined to achieve his or her goals by providing his or her best effort into a situation; a person who believes that intelligence is an ability that continues to grow and develop when faced with different obstacles and becomes resilient from those setbacks and will embrace the opportunity to gain knowledge from a setback. For instance, in my past experience during freshman year,…

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…

As part of the Literary, Debate, and Quiz Club, of which I was President in my 3rd year, I have organised over 100 literary events both inside and outside of the college. I was part of the founding committee that conceived Manipal’s annual National Level Debate Tournament, and I subsequently served as Convener for the tournament’s second edition. I have participated in and won a number of debates, quizzes and public speaking competitions. My experiences as Head Boy of my school in class 12, coupled with my tenure as President of the literary club in college, have enabled me to take on leadership roles that have shaped my decision-making and critical thinking prowess. I am now more confident than ever in my ability to manage a team, lead by example, and ensure that all my colleagues and teammates feel…
