Howard L. DuBose was born on June 25, 1940, in Meridian, Mississippi. His parents are James Amos DuBose and Eula Inez Fairchild DuBose. His father worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, and his mother was a stay at home housewife. He has eight siblings: seven brothers, and one sister. Three of his brothers have passed away. He only knew his paternal grandmother who passed away when he was sixteen due to a stroke. He is married to my grandmother, Donna Louise Lowe DuBose, and has two children, Marla Denise DuBose Courtney and Leslie Louise DuBose Brown. His grandchildren are Christopher Courtney, Katie Brown, and Emma Brown. He attended Chalk Elementary, Kate Griffin Jr. High, Meridian High School, and the MS Graduating School. He started out by being a general purpose vehicle mechanic. He was responsible for inspecting vehicle repairs on the base, and he made sure that every vehicle was working properly. It was his very first job on the base, where he started his military career. He was later promoted to a heavy mobile equipment mechanic. He had to repair and inspect many important vehicles, and he had to pay very close attention to every detail of what he was doing. It was a job of greater importance than the one he had before it. He was last promoted to a maintenance control technician. This job required him to control the shop, the vehicles, and the maintenance. He scheduled maintenance into the shop and assigned the jobs to the mechanics. He also processed all of the vehicles on the base. (E8). He truly enjoyed his service in the military, except for a few times when they did inspections. He had many great friends while he was in the service, and he still talks to many of them often. He visits many of his old friends during the Christmas season, and he also sometimes goes back to the base. He once went back to the base with many of his old friends when they were having Blue Jean Day. One story he remembers from his time in the service, is when he was out of step during one drill practice, and he had to march out to the side of the flight in front of everyone. He was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, marksmanship, longevity, and the Mississippi Magnolia Medal at his retirement. After he retired, he became a full-time grandfather for my cousin, my sister, and myself.
