The plane was going to Los Angeles from Boston, and had ninety-two people on board. About fifteen minutes later, at 8:14 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 took off. This plane had sixty-five people on board and was also travelling from Boston to Los Angeles. Five minutes later, at 8:19, flight attendants Betty Ong and Madeline Sweeney, who are aboard American Airlines Flight 11 report to ground personnel that the flight is being hijacked. They reported that the hijacking took place around 8:14 a.m. Hijackers then stabbed two other attendants and pushed their way to the cockpit. (“The 9/11 Report”) Mohammed Atta, a hijacker on the plane, came on the radio to the ground and to the passengers and said, “We have some planes. Just stay quiet and you will be okay. We are returning to the airport. Nobody move, everything will be okay. If you try to make any moves you 'll endanger yourself and the airplane (“9/11 Anniversary 2014” 1)”. At this time, American Airlines contacted the FBI for further investigation (“9/11: Timeline of Events” 1). The attack officially began at 8:46 a.m., when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the top of the North Building of the World Trade Center. Moments later, the North Tower was evacuated. (“One Nation” 49) At 10:28, the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed 102 minutes after being hit. The North Tower did not collapse as soon as the South Tower because the impact on the North Tower was higher than the South. By 10:30, New York City governor George Pataki declared a state of emergency for New York. After both towers collapsed, everything in Manhattan was covered in dust and dirt, making the city looked almost black and white. Many people in Manhattan were tried to get out of the impact zone, going to Broadway and Greenwich. (“One Nation” 49, 67). At 11:00 a.m., New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani called for an evacuation of lower Manhattan. This area included more than one million residents and tourists. By this time, many rescue workers were trying to find survivors in the rubble of the former World Trade Centers. Nothing else major happened in Manhattan until 5:20 p.m., when Seven World Trade Center Collapsed. No people died in this collapse because the building was evacuated in
