Television has one of the biggest impacts on youth and teen life today, we spend a lot of time staring at the glowing screen with neverendless commercials, programs, and shows. According to Teen Health and Media an average kid in america spends about one-third of free time watching TV, with teens watching as much as twenty or more hours of TV per week. Another study the 2011 Active Healthy Kids Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, revealed that youth ages 6-19 average six hours of screen time per day, with TV programs (watched on a variety of different screens) accounting for much of that time. Scenes of violence on television, rape, abuse and murder. But that was in 1992, that number has doubled or even tripled! Virtually all researchers and organizations for the protection of children who conducted these studies, concluded that viewing violence on television makes people more aggressive. Most of these studies on the link between violence on television and aggressive behavior in children and young adults, confirm that theres a link between television viewing and adolescent antisocial actions.
Viewing violence on television contributes to violence in real life for several reasons. For example, the violence seems to be usual and acceptable and even admirable when favorite and physically attractive heroes are rewarded for their violent actions. Film industry would not be spending millions on the creation of a horror movie, if all this was not required audience. Many refuse to understand this, it seems that, despite the ill-view television, they are not aggressive. However, it is worth remembering that there are people who smoke daily two packs of cigarettes and thus not at risk of contracting lung cancer. Does this mean that smoking contributes to the development of this disease?
