How Video Games Affect Heart Rate

Improved Essays
How does playing video games affect your heart rate? If someone were to play a video game, then their heart rate would be higher than before they played the game. The independent variable was playing the video game, and the dependent variable was their heart rate after playing. Some control variables were the location, temperature, and game. The control group was the heart rate before playing the game, while the experimental group was the game. The important procedures were; Take participants heart rate. Have them play one 2-minute round of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Take participants heart rate again. The experiment was conducted according to plan. Sometimes, the heart rate was high before the game than after playing the game. Overall, the testing went well. The range of the …show more content…
The ones that don’t, the outliers, were most likely caused by extraneous variables. The people whose heart rate was higher before rather than after could have been caused by them doing some sort of physical activity earlier, like riding their bike or walking. This might have been prevented if the test was held a few minutes after they got to the testing site, instead of as soon as they got there. Another factor may have been the tool used to measured. The tool used to measure heart rates was an Apple Watch. The watch may not have taken the heart rate correctly, although on preliminary tests it did. These two influences may have been the most prominent extraneous variables that altered the data. Overall, the extraneous variables should have been considered for more accurate tests. Most of the data was correct, and was enough to make an actual conclusion to the experiment. All things considered, the experiment was a moderate success. The testing went pretty smoothly, and most everything, excluding the few outliers, went according to plan. If the experiment was conducted again, the extraneous variables would have surely been taken care

The experiment consisted of numerous limitations and uncontrolled variables which impacted on the validity of the outcome. The lack of repetition was a major limitation in this experiment. The shortage of repetition forbids the elimination of outliers that may cause inaccuracy in the practical outcome. The lack of repetition in this experiment provided erroneous practical results where experimenters are mislead due to outliers, hence conclusions could not be accurately drawn.…

My STEAM Expo experiment was testing which hamster food gives hamsters the most energy to hamsters. I tested three store brand foods: Carefresh Complete, Sunseed, and Nibble Rings. I also tested one that I made based off of the research that I did prior to the experiment. I thought that this project was perfect for my three hamsters, because they are all very tired and lazy. I also think that other people can use my type of food so that their hamsters can be energetic, too.…

The results highlighted a correlation, but we are not quite sure if the results yielded a causation. The arithmetic mean for the control group is 29.048. This signifies that in 2 minutes, the average subject tested scored 29 out of a total 36 or an 80.68% percent accuracy. On the other hand, the average for the our experiment group, the subjects give gatorade, is 30.524 or an 84.78 percent accuracy. The results slightly improved for the experiment, but it is highly unlikely that this is due to the actual gatorade consumption.…

Hypothesis- Science Fair Name: Gustavo Hernandez Date: Nov.28.2015 Partner: N/A Experimental Question, Independent Variable, and Dependent Variable: Do video games affect memory? Memory is an incredible thing and some parts of it we do not even understand, so in this new era with video games rising in popularity and being in many different households do video games affect gaming? The testing will be done by manipulating a game playing time between studying and taking a quiz. A test subject will be given five minutes to study a list of words, then a twenty minute break will be taken which will be different between the test subjects, one subject will play Minecraft for those twenty minutes while the other Test Subject will watch television in those twenty minutes then both test subjects will take a small quiz based of the study guide and then both quizzes will be graded and compared.…

Everyone knows regular, daily exercise is beneficial to the heart. It helps reduce the risk of heart disease, maintains a healthy body weight, lowers blood pressure, and improves cholesterol. A difference of appearance can be identified between the hearts of people who exercise routinely and those of highly trained athletes. Athletic hearts undergo cardiac remodeling of chambers and physiological changes as a result of extreme conditions placed on the heart over a long period of time. The heart adapts to these conditions by increasing in chamber size and wall thickness to eject more blood to the rest of the body.…

First of all, the question we are going to explore is “Whether or not playing video games increase aggressive behavior in children?” The independent variable will be violent and nonviolent video games, and the dependent variable is how much aggression was demonstrated. I will be using the naturalistic observation and experimentation methods to answer this hypothesis. According to Openstak (2014) “the greatest benefit of natural observation is the validity, or accuracy of information collected unobtrusively in a natural setting.”…

The pH meter for example, was a common disturbance in the data. Although the same meter was used for all of the trials (to ensure that a potential difference in meters did not affect the data), many of the meters that were available for the lab were quite faulty. Even after it was calibrated, they seemed to jump around in values until finally reaching one value. Although it seemed to work fine for consecutive trials, the meter would eventually require another calibration. This occured for all of the meters that were tested (all meters were tested to see which one could work the best before the trials began).…

My experiment was to see if different genres of video games will raise or lower you blood pressure and make you more stressed out. My hypothesis was If people play horror games it will lower their blood pressure more than if they play strategy games and other types of games because they will be more relaxed after the game is over. I used a blood pressure cuff and four different games, the first was a horror game called Emily Wants to Play the second was a shooting game called Team Fortress 2. The third game was a strategy game called doors, the fourth and final was a racing game. I took the participants blood pressure before and after each game and gave them three minutes in between each game to relax and get their heart rate down.…

However, the results are quite reliable in the sense that this experiment could be easily repeated with different participants and the results would (hopefully) be consistent with the findings in this lab. We can see the reliability of this lab also by looking at the three trials that each participant had to do for each condition (i.e. resting heart rate and listening to the songs), and by seeing if those numbers were similar and consistent with each other. The data is sufficient to answer the research question as it encompasses both the occasions of heart rate increasing and decreasing as a result of various music tempos, and supports the hypothesis. The range of the independent variable was appropriate as it demonstrated the results of both an increase and a decrease in tempo, and it took the results further because it showed how the faster a tempo is, the more it will increase one’s heart rate. There is one anomalous data occurrence with Participant 2; this participant starts with a normal resting heart rate of 85, then after listening to the Ella Fitzgerald song, this person’s heart rate rises 7 beats per minute to 92 bpm, and also gets a 92 bpm after listening to the Bach song.…

Another error could've been the subject(s) emotion could've been in the way, the subject(s) could've had weird emotions causing the heart rate to fluctuate to the emotion(s).
