How Unnatural Factors Affecting Community Health

The first thing the author noticed about the video Unnatural Causes-Is Inequality Making Us Sick that environmental factors can have a huge affect on a communities’ health. It did not matter if it was a town in the United States or the Marshall Islands; both had a change in the environment that caused health problems. It makes one wonder what else could stress a community to the point of causing medical problems? With the Marshall Islands it was the limited sanitation, too many people in close quarters, and maybe possibly the radiation exposure in the past. On the other side, one will see Greenville, MI, where 2,700 jobs were lost with one factory moving to Mexico. The hospital in the area went from 80 cases a year up to 240 cases due to the mental and physical issues that accompanied this move. (PBS, 2016) To begin, according to PBS (2016) the reason for the high rates of tuberculosis is already compromised immune systems and being in enclosed quarters to up to twenty other people. The more she thought on it, the clearer it became. If one has been exposed to poverty, they have probably been touched by malnutrition. This can be seen years later because without the proper nutrients one’s body will not develop the way it should. This person will probably have a weak immune system or did not grow as tall or as wide as they could have. Then one can look at someone who has suffered from abuse of any kind; the physical the body will shows the scars from the past. No matter what a person is exposed to one will be able to see it on the body. Here are a few examples that come to mind: someone depressed who handled it by cutting, someone with an eating disorder who is not obese, someone who stressed their whole career with cardiovascular problems as their reward, and it just keeps going on and
