How Tuesdays With Morrie Changed My Life

In all honesty when we were assigned Tuesdays with Morrie and heard a little summary of what the book held inside, I quickly made the assumption that it was a “useless project” or a “waste of time”. I began to read the book with a totally uninterested attitude and even though the book may not be my favorite genre, it really grabbed my attention whether I liked to admit it or not. The wisdom and insight Morrie sought to inform people on and the inspiring outlook he had on life stirred in myself a need to meditate and reflect on my own life. Over all it was a motivating book and I gained strong personal insights, in some ways I even felt times of shock with views that made me consider changing my own life now and for the future, and realized …show more content…
They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” (p. 43) There is not much more to add to that quote, Morrie simply states and puts emphasis on what is truly important in life and that meaningless things are a waste of time. Anything that is a passion of yours, is helping the world become a better place or is building up significant relationships is what counts in life. When carrying out these meaningful actions and performances “…you should always put your best into wat you do.” (personal interview). This personal insight was taken from my mom Teresa Jimenez, she is 38, is a stay at home mom, and a super one at that considering she homeschooled/homeschools all 3 of us girls which I’m sure is no easy task. She has always pushed me in everything I do, and I couldn’t thank her more for that. At times it can be difficult because things can take a lot of work and practice but she has taught me that trying

I first picked up Highly Illogical Behavior at the recommendation of Mrs. Bock. I had never read a book with a protagonist who had a mental illness that was present in the behavior and the overall plot proceedings throughout the novel. I usually tend to stay within the genres that I am familiar with - romance and realistic fiction. Most of the books that I read are about how a man and a woman fall in love in spite of emotional and physical strife. Highly Illogical Behavior, however, was about a man who had such severe social anxiety that he developed agoraphobia, thus rendering him incapable of leaving his house.…

I chose to read the book Funeral Festivals in America: Rituals for the Living by Jacqueline S. Thursby. This work explores numerous aspects of funerals and the customs that surround it. Although some of it was hard to follow and seemed a bit jumbled, I was able to get a sufficient amount of information from it that I believe will help me become a great funeral director in the future. I was able to extract a few great lessons from the work, the first being the fact that all people unconsciously seek a transformative experience. I found that this is an experience that provides deep knowledge but isn’t necessarily accessible to the person until they have that experience.…

I have learned a lot through the assignments. I thought it was a weird how the author started the book with 9-11-01. With a very touchy subject to all of us. I think sometimes, I would get really into the book, that I would let my emotions get involved. I did, however, recommend the book to several of my co-workers, so they could understand why I would get the way I got.…
