For the past couple of days the gladers have been walking across what used to be green land, but since the sun flares dried everything up it is now an endless dessert. The boys plod through the desert day by day just trying to survive, “In front of him, a flat pan of dry and lifeless earth stretched as far as he could see. Not a single tree. Not a bush. No hills or valleys. Just an orange-yellow sea of dust and rocks; wavering currents of heated air boiled on the horizon like steam, floating upward, as if any life out there were melting toward the cloudless and pale blue sky” (Dashner). WICKED is an organization that is putting the boys through these large dangerous tasks and if what they do to try and kill them doesn’t work, the desert will for sure do the job. Lastly I will be questioning. My question is why would WICKED put the group through all these tests? In the book it says, “The Ratman said that the reason for these tests is so they can record how they respond to challenges they put them through” (Dashner). WICKED says that they are benefactors and are trying to do good for mankind and make the world great again. If WICKED already has a cure for the disease called The Flare, why wouldn’t they give it everybody and not just Thomas’s group? I think that WICKED is trying to do something good, but they are doing it in the wrong type of
