The Perks of being a Wallflower follows an adolescent named charlie. It takes place in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the early 1990’s. At the beginning of the of the story, Charlie starts out depressed with no friends. He writes letters to this unknown person throughout the story about his first year through high school. Also on how he is dealing with the death of his friend Michael and his aunt. Charlie befriends two seniors in his High School, Sam and Patrick. Patrick and Sam are step siblings. Charlie falls for Sam during the movie. While Patrick is gay, having a relationship with the school Quarterback Patrick. Throughout this book Sam and Patrick help Charlie get out his comfort zone. Also Charlie's English teacher causes him to want to be a writer. After graduation, Sam and Patrick leave for Penn State.Charlie’s depression begins to come back to him. The Wallflower group involved people out of the ordinary. Being involved with the group Charlie no longer was interested in spending all of his time with his family. He chose to drink with his friends. He starts to become intrested in love, when he falls for Sam. Charlie decided his future. Charlie parents had a Authoritarian parenting style. They wanted him to become successful , just like his brother. Some parents don’t care for their child that have depression. Charlies parents weren’t like that they helped him through his depression, getting the help he needs.
