The 340 page book Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks is easily the best book I've ever read. Safe Haven is all about Katie moving to a new place with a secret that nobody knows. She meets the convenience store manager Alex and his kids and instantly falls in love whether she wants to admit it or not. In the beginning of the book Katie runs away from her home in Boston, Massachusetts for a unknown reason and comes to the small town of Southport, North Carolina. Katie starts to fall in love with Alex and his kids, Josh and Kristen. She starts going to the beach with them and having dinner at their place regularly. It is when she finds out that Alex’s wife passed away from cancer everything is flipped upside down. Katie learns how to overlook it and still have feelings for Alex. She also meets a new friend Jo who is her new neighbor. She likes having a neighbor who is nice and is there for her. She is a therapist and gets Katie to spill her secret. She tells her everything about her old relationship with her husband and why she had to run away. Her husband Kevin was physically abuse to her while he was almost always drunk.
