I chose the movie , “ I am Sam.” It was about this mentally retarded guy named Sam, who accidently got a homeless girl pregnant. Right after she had the baby, she left Sam with the little baby girl named, Lucy. Sam has the mind capacity of a 7 year old so raising a little girl could be difficult at times. Sam would take Lucy to IHOP every night and they would both get the same things. But once the state realized that Sam was an unfit parent because he didn’t have a job and he acts the same way his seven year old daughter does. Lucy gets moved to a new home and Sam tries to get a lawyer, but realizes that he can’t afford one. The lawyer decides that she will do it for free and help him out. At court, they tell Sam that if he gets a job and can be …show more content…
Sam then moves into a home that is closer to the family that Lucy lives with. Meanwhile, the lawyer is having her problems at home. Her husband doesn’t want to be with her or around their son. The situation that Sam is in makes her think a lot more about her family and what is going with them and how she doesn’t spend enough time with her son. She shows up at Sam’s house and knocks, but he doesn’t answer because he is building paper planes because that was the thing him and Lucy used to do. The lawyer then kicks in the door and tells him she is not going to give up the opportunity of getting his daughter back. While Lucy is at school, Sam hides in a tree and flies the paper planes towards the ground and Lucy knows they are from her dad so she picks them up and keeps them to remind her that her dad is not going to forget about her. After so many times of Lucy sneaking out of her new home to go to Sam’s house and him bringing her back, the mom shows up at Sam’s house and is crying because she knows that she can’t keep Lucy from her dad. She tells him that she is going to tell the court that she can go back to live with
