The first beneficial experience that I gained from my honors english class was seeing myself fall into a growth mindset. I can’t begin to describe how many nights I spent on my living room floor, utterly frustrated and at a loss for what to do. There were many nights where I wanted to give up. I know that it seems like such a small experience, but it really opened up my eyes. I had never analyzed a book the way our class analyzed The Secret Life of Bees, and it really opened my eyes to how little I had experienced. Seeing the hardships that the people in The Secret Life of Bees went through made me realize that there are people that actually experience things like that, and I have no idea what that’s like. For example, in the book, May commits suicide and I realized that there are actual people out there dealing with someone close to them committing suicide, but yet, I had no idea what that was like. This experience was really helpful to me, because it made me more considerate of what others are going through, and helped me gain a positive attitude and get along with people
