Home made me feel safe, and in those days camping tended to make me uneasy due to fears and the unfamiliar activity of camping in the wilderness. I was also homesick, and I never thought that being away from home would have a huge impact on my experience as a little cub scout in those days. I learned to be confident when conquering your fears and this helped me evolve into the mature and confident person I am today. If I had not learned to conquer my fears, my imminent future may have not changed for the better. I am glad that I chose to go on and become a boy scout after graduating from my cub scout pack. I have become a better adapted person after this whole experience. If you never face your fears, you won’t be able to conquer them. Admittedly, I was afraid to stay the maximum length of the camp, which was 40 days. So, I decided to stay only a portion of the camp. I then went on to thrive at the camp; after the first week I barely spoke to my parents; looking back it probably scared them. Then when it came time for me to leave, I did not feel the option was even there—I was either staying for 40 days, or I was going to be dragged out by force. Even though it may not sound like it I became very content and more mature at this camp.…

The idea of fear is a very common idea, we think it’s a bad thing. This is a bad mind set, because fear is what keeps us alive but it also keeps us from doing things we want to do. So we are brave by pushing fear in the back of our mind, we then can do things we want to do. This makes us brave that we can live with our fears and still do the things we like.
