The views of two worlds Living in a world where society cares more about beauty and entertainment, keeps society from seeing the reality of the world. The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, talks about a place that was once known as North America, now known as the nation Panem. Panem consists of the big Capitol surrounded by twelve districts. The Capitol holds the upper echelon of society while the twelve districts are the poor. Every year the Capitol chooses a boy and a girl from each district, brings them to the Capitol and they are forced to participate in what are known as the Hunger Games. The people of the Capitol are amazed as these teens are killing each other for the win. As Collins states “To make it humiliating as well as torturous, the Capitol requires us to treat The Hunger Games as a festivity, a sporting event pitting every district against the others. The last tribute alive receives a life of ease back home, and their district will be showered with prizes, largely consisting of food. All year, the Capitol will show the winning district gifts of grain and oil and even delicacies like sugar while the rest of us battle starvation” ( Collins 19). Collins is saying that the Hunger Games is a sport where each tribute fights against each other to win goods from the Capitol and will gain fame and be recognized. Comparing to that, society today has similar aspects in competition and using violence to win. In the article “ Reality shows aimed at young viewers airing more violent scenes” by Hollie Mckay on Fox news quotes “This sends a message to young people that bad behavior can be turned into a TV show and bring with fame, fortune, nice cars and a lavish lifestyle” (Mckay). Mckay states that having bad behavior can turn people famous and have a nice lifestyle. Collins and Mckay both agree here that winning a fight will get you goods, a better lifestyle and
