When the pigs create new laws and terms of the farm, they suggest that Mr. Jones will return if the animals do not follow their orders, knowing that all would do anything to prevent it (Orwell 56). The pigs use this excuse throughout the book to get what they want without being questioned. They play on the animals’ fear and ignorance of a time they all can only vaguely remember. Animal Farm is the eye-opening account of communism in the Soviet Union told through animals who take over a farm. Like Stalin and his communist associates took over the Soviet Union, making communism seem beneficial to the people through propaganda, Napoleon and his pigs take over Manor Farm, making the heavy work load and little reward seem beneficial to the other animals. If the animals had only applied this verse to their lives! The animals, in all their gullibility, succumbed to the oppressive rule of the pigs and heavy work load, simply because they automatically accepted whatever they were told and didn’t think through things. If only the people of the Soviet Union had been as shrewd as snakes, communism may have fallen faster.…

In Animal Farm, one of George Orwell’s main goals was to portray the Russian Revolution of 1917 in his writing through character’s, events, and concepts. His goal was clearly shown in his text because many important people of the Russian Revolution were seen through animals, events that took place in the Russian Revolution were reflected in his writing, and many concepts of the time were shown in a different form. He accomplished his goal by using simpler characters and an easier concept to grasp. Orwell wrote Animal Farm in the style he did to appeal to a wider variety of people but still reflect an important time in history.
