I had contacted Mr. Kenneth Kiefert ahead of time through email and met him at the school at around 10 that morning. Since the class he taught wasn’t until 10:25, he offered to show me around the school since I had never been there before and it was a fairly new school. Once he showed me around a bit we went to his classroom and discussed what the class he taught was and the specifics of it. Student A from the morning class has a learning disability that prevents him from focusing and becomes easily frustrated. During one on one instruction, I would repeat the directions and sometimes the child will have moments, For example, there was an ant on his backpack, and he began to scream and run while most students will stomp on the bug. Student A made progress but will benefit from special education because the student will receive more attention compared to a regular classroom. Regular classes are unable to provide that one on one instruction and teachers may not be adequately trained to teach children with a learning disability. (Spring, 2014, pg. 126)…

Recently I did my observation at Chime Institute 's Schwarzenegger Community School in a first-grade class that consisted of about twenty students both those of who have disabilities and do not. These students are typically six years old and at the time there was one teacher and one assistant who led the class. In the classroom, there was also one paraprofessional for the student with special needs. The mother of the child was also there guiding her daughter and helping with any questions the paraprofessional had regarding her daughter 's needs. For the majority of my observation, I was in a class setting…

Response to Intervention: Tirzah Carroll Reinhardt University Special education is no longer the sole responsibility of a special needs educator. General education teachers are now finding their classrooms operating under the inclusion philosophy, which believes that all students, regardless of type or severity of their disability, have a right to receive instruction in a general classroom (Taylor, Smiley, & Richard, 2009). In fact, general education teachers are involved in the learning disability identification process long before these students ever receive an individualized education program (IEP). I distinctly remember one day talking to the lead teacher in the classroom, Amanda about how one little boy, Henry would never eat his lunch or snacks. Henry would stick to only the foods that he knew like mandarin oranges or carrots and that was all he would eat.…
