In the book “The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald” Chapter one starts out by portraying how a young man grew from his father's advice believing he is tolerable. In a way, this reminds me of myself as well as how I admire taking people’s advice. I learn from people’s mistakes rather than finding out the tough way. My dad has always told me to complete my chores and show me how to act, but I almost never listened to his advice since I had always thought his own actions were selfish. Although I still believe I have been a tolerable person, people have come to me asking for advice. I find people telling me about their days or events that have happened in their lives lately, This part of the story reminds me of how I have been told I am a “Good listener”. In chapter one it mentions how Nick notices Gatsby for the first time staring at a green light from across the bay, this reminds me of when people …show more content…
My grandmother likes to say we are relatives of some famous person way back in the day. My grandmother once said people in our family way back then used to own slaves, I would look at her and be say come on grandmother, you think that causes our family to be special in any sort of way. Back to the book, it mentions how Gatsby throws exquisite parties which made him famous around New York, This doesn’t reflect on where I live at all, there are hardly ever parties here, but when there is it usually consists of underage drinking with one of the cops daughters. Then everyone just falling asleep and nothing happens afterwards. In the book two girls talk to Nick having a casual conversation they start to talk about Gatsby and “How he killed a man, or was a German spy in the war”. In my understanding he might just have been a to himself personality, he’d rather watch everyone have fun at the parties rather than him being the main

    F. Scott-Fitzgerald uses the secondary character and narrator of Nick Carraway, as his own voice in the story of the Great Gatsby. Nick Carraway is someone who believes he is open minded and a good listener, but Nick is easily influenced, causing him to become more judgmental as the book goes on. Our idea of Nick personality changes from beginning to end, when finishing the book, many question; who is the real Nick Carraway? Nick never actually tells us anything about his personality, other than he is not a judgmental person.…

he plot I found most crucial in chapter one was, when Nick had met the Buchanan’s, and Jordan. This plot was most important I thought because the Buchanan’s had a lot of issues, amongst themselves. Nick learned many things about the Buchanan’s such as Tom Buchanan was a cheater. Tom had another lover in New York while still in a relationship with Daisy. Tom is very neglectful towards his wife Daisy and seems not to care about her.…

Supposedly, Gatsby is a descendant of a wealthy Middle West family, and is a decorated veteran of World War I (and does not necessarily have any sort of particular flaw). Yet, the longer Nick accompanies Gatsby on particular errands and missions, his viewpoint becomes more…

Gatsby’s home existed almost entirely for show, equipped with a tower that serves no particular purpose, in addition to a magnificent swimming pool and extensive acreage of neatly-trimmed gardens and lawn. His parties existed to serve similar purposes. The ostentatious mannerisms of society is evident in Gatsby’s parties by means of the extravagance, copious volumes of bootlegged alcohol, and the mass of guests who are attending simply to associate with Gatsby because of his wealth. Despite the immense sums of money Gatsby pours into these parties, he clearly does not seem to enjoy them quite like everyone else. It is clear to see that the guests at his parties are incapable of existing independently of one another.…

Similar to all tragic heroes, their existence served a great purpose in affecting the lives of others. Nick Carraway, the narrator of the novel and one of Gatsby’s only friends, was greatly affected by Gatsby. Nick was always one who kept to himself and he admitted “I’m inclined to reserve all judgements” (1). Despite witnessing immoral behaviour in others close to him, he did not speak out. Rather than speaking out against the man who cheated on his cousin Daisy, he visited the woman he had an affair with, explaining “Though I was curious to see her, I had no desire to meet her—but I did” (24).…
