The Burger King ad depicts a close up image of a heavily makeuped young woman in profile, her eyes and mouth are both wide open. Protruding from the opposite side of the picture is the sandwich for which the ad is named. The sandwich is pointing directly at the woman’s mouth as if it is about to be eaten. The sexual connotation is strikingly obvious, a tactic to draw the attention of the viewer and leave a strong impression on them. The image in itself is very suggestive, with the woman in profile and a sandwich seemingly on its way to enter her mouth, moved by a force not seen within the image. Pair that image with the word “blow” in large letters directly underneath the image of the woman, and it is extremely difficult to ignore the suggested sexual connotation. It is clear to see that Burger King intended this image to resemble a sexual act. The word “blow” paired with such an image immediately alludes to the idea of oral sex. This aspect of the ad is overtly obvious upon viewing. However there is an underlying message that is expressed through the sexual nature of the ad.
