How To Write A Reflective Essay: My Growth As A Writer

Although I completed a multitude of creative writing assignments 9th grade, my growth as a writer really began 10th grade on, as that’s when I moved from an Honor’s level class to GT and AP level classes. In 9th grade, much of my creative writing reflects a lack of ambition. The ideas were present, but they were very underdeveloped and juvenile in conclusions. Starting 10th grade, my knowledge concerning correct grammar and organization of a written piece of work started to improve, as reflected by fewer and fewer grammatical corrections needed from my 10th grade writing piece, an application of 1984’s principles (which I wrote in Mr. Osborne’s class), to my 12th grade writing piece, a college essay with a strong narrative component (which

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…

As you requested, I am writing to share my past writing experiences which include what kinds of writing I have done in school, the feedback that I seek on my work before I turn in assignments, the memories that I have of writing, voluntary writing I have done, and much more. Past Experiences with Writing Previous to this course I have taken several mandatory English, Writing, and Literature courses in which I have gained experience that now impact the way I write. In high school, I took my basic English & Writing courses, along with an Advanced Placement English IV course, in which the teacher persuaded me to join the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and compete in the Ready Writing Competition, in which I won first place in the…

I have always believed that teachers shape the people we become. They influence us just as much as our family. I have been fortunate enough to meet four extraordinary teachers along my educational path. They taught me not only how to improve my writing, but life lessons that made me the thinker and writer I am today. Mrs. Ceci was the first teacher who brought me out of my shell.…

At the age of twelve, my family and I started on the hunt looking for a good church. We went to many. Until one day, we found the right one. When we started, my answers weren’t the best when the teacher would give us written homework. Over the months and years, my writing process began to improve due to the fact that the Lord was helping me express the answer he wanted me to say.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

As I reflect upon the three essays assigned in RWS 200, I realize the countless strategies that I learned to help improve my writing. My improvement can be seen chronologically among the papers. The strategies that were most effective in my writing were, ATCC, rebuttal, and evaluations. Essay #1 and essay #3 emphasized the importance of the credibility of our sources. My topics, arming teachers and vegetarianism, were controversial so there were many articles about them that supported my arguments.…

Throughout my work this semester I have had a chance to improve on my essay skills and my own stylistic approach to my papers. Although I have been successful in my works this semester, I think what I mostly improved on was the writing process. My progress with the writing process was tested when it came to our group essay. I could normally get away with cutting corners with the writing process on my own, but with a group the process was necessary. I found that working as a group through these steps with assigned tasks made it easier for me to complete them.…

It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…

My Progress English has always been a favorite subject of mine. Back in elementary school English and Reading were one and the same; then, came junior high and suddenly English became all about writing, mainly writing my own ideas. For some time I struggled to find a voice and by the time Senior Year came around I found Creative Writing and had a strong sense of voice. In Creative Writing (my final high school English class) there were no comma errors, little required organization, with an emphasis on pathos and setting the scene; one could say that after several years of not stepping into a classroom, this is what my college writing most closely resembled. As mentioned earlier my final high school English class did not require proper…
