How To Write A Reflective Essay Ap English Class

How would I describe this class? I would probably say without hesitation that this class is grueling, exhausting, and stressful (just kidding). Although, I would have to admit that somewhere in the back of my mind, I realize how valuable a class like this is. Nowadays, everywhere I look, people are glued to their phones or other devices; when I was in middle school before everyone had a smartphone, people actually read books in their free time. It is quite sad how many students of this generation will not pick up a book unless it is assigned to them. Confronted with dropping rates of advanced reading and writing skills, this dual enrollment college composition course is a remedy that will prepare college-bound seniors for the future. In fact, I can speak from experience that this class has taught me valuable lessons – lessons which separate me from the rest of the plebeians (I’m joking around a little in case it wasn’t obvious). …show more content…
Honestly, I gained some new skills that I thought I wouldn’t have gotten. I think I’ve mentioned that I took AP English Language before, but this class was actually not a simple repeat of that. While AP English mainly focused on the English language itself – such as rhetoric, grammar, and analysis – this Dual Enrollment course focused more on the creative aspects of writing, like the composition and the study of several different formats (for example, the research paper and the brochure). Also, I’m probably one of the least creative people ever (as evidenced by me being the only one that did Choice X for the project). I was too specialized in my favorite subjects (mathematics and science) to branch outside my comfort zone (English has always been my lowest performing class until this year). So this class was an educational experience for me because it expanded the creative side of my mind and, therefore, grew me as a well-rounded

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

On the first day of school, I remember walking into class and seeing all of the new people in my class. I also remember meeting all of my new teachers. I had no idea how much that I would learn, and I had no idea how much I would struggle to learn the new material. One particular class that I feel that I have learned a lot in is WHAP. WHAP stands for world history AP.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

I’ve always considered myself a writer. It was the one hobby I could point to and say I both loved and was semi-decent at. However, taking an AP English course such as this one changed my idea of just what a “writer” is, all the while transforming how I read, interpret, and understand the written work of others. I never expected that I would one day be unable to read something without “arguing” with it in my head, or that that hot seat would change how I felt about and approached my writing. Then again, I never thought this class would be how I learned how to cook either.…

The three sample pieces I chose to include in my portfolio are an argumentative English essay, a book report written for an AP science class, and a lab report. These pieces illustrate my proficiency in multiple subject areas including research and argumentation. The first piece presented in my portfolio is an argumentative essay written for my AP Language and Composition course. The given essay, written by Edward O. Wilson, and AP prompt were taken from the 2009 AP Language exam, found on the College Board website. The prompt instructed students to “write an essay in which you analyze how Wilson’s use of satire illustrates the unproductive nature of such discussions.”…

I have long been fascinated by the way politics and economics influence individuals and how decisions made by political leaders can change the course of history. I am intrigued by the historical development of political and economic thought, as evidenced when studying the history of China. Milton Friedman’s Capitalism and Freedom provided me perspective on the connectivity of economic and political freedoms needed to strengthen democratic institutions. I also enjoyed Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the Twenty-First Century for his outlook on global inequality. His argument that rapid economic growth diminishes the importance of wealth was engaging and provided concrete historical data to back concepts such as the Kuznets curve, Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve from macroeconomics.…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…

Third advisory always proves challenging for me. This year, however, I remained on task throughout each quarter, so I saw third as a chance to keep that streak up. Sadly, I did not fully apply myself and excel to my best ability, specifically in AP Language. Usually around the end of the quarter, I have a strong B. As of right now, I have a noticeably weaker C+, which is not good in my opinion. Also, my attendance in third quarter was low, as I was absent many times for injuries and appointments almost every week.…
