How To Write A Reflective Essay About My Clinical Experience

Improved Essays
I was excited for my first day of clinical experience because I know that I get to work more directly and closely with clients and other healthcare providers this term. However, I was also worried about how my nursing skill and knowledge at that point would contribute to residents who I need to care for because I still felt inexperienced and did not want to hurt them physically or emotionally by accident. That being said I understand that I think I need to do more practice on the skills I am less confident at. I was less worried when I got to shadow one of the care aides who was patient, kind, and understanding. I could say that I learned a lot from what I saw how she performed her care to each resident very smoothly, efficiently, and quickly. I thought it was very clever when I saw her collected all the needed materials from her cart, including a bib, for one client’s morning care before breakfast time, so she did not have to go out from the resident’s room to get anything else. I did not see any hesitation in her movements and she positioned her assigned residents easily with her hands. I was surprised …show more content…
I am honestly still struggling a little bit with understanding my assigned resident’s routine and preference of care. Moreover, I noticed how hard it can be to just perform the morning care for someone who has a limited mobility even though I already saw what the care aide did. I would have to put a lot of consideration for planning out my care plan such as, thinking about what equipment and materials I need to have to prepare for the AM care and scheduling the care accordingly to my assigned resident’s usual routine. There are still many challenges and cooperative work I need to do with my assigned resident, but I hope that I can improve each day in my clinical

This week at clinical I had a Gyn patient for two days and a new mom and baby on the second clinical day. My patient that had on Tuesday with the hysterectomy was a very quiet and kind lady who was recovering very well from her surgery. During and after her cares we were able to connect through learning about her family she grew up with, her family she had grown of her own and about her children and other interests of hers. It made me feel good being able to own the moment through connecting with my patient that also made collaborating and working as a team much easier throughout the day to complete the needed tasks. Another aspect of making the shift go very smoothly was working with Brenda, I enjoyed collaborating with her as she is fast-paced…

Yesterday in clinical I was on the labor and delivery unit. As everyone know, mom and baby is not my preference. For me, the problem is not caring for mom or even seeing a delivery, it is caring for the tiny baby. I wanted to be on the labor and delivery side because I hoped to see a delivery. There was one delivery on the unit, but unfortunately the mom was not receptive to having a student in the room.…

Preparing for this exam was unlike any other exam for me. I have recently accepted a job at Easter Maine Medical Center, as a nursing tech, and the hours of orientation have been challenging to balance with my studies. My new job has required even greater time management than I have previously implemented. I worked a thirteen-hour shift the day before the exam, worked immediately after the exam, and then completed an online midterm for my socio-cultural nursing class that evening. Although I have not received my exam grade, I felt very prepared and confident due to my strict time management.…

I am writing to express my interest in the Clinical Internship at the Child Mind Institute, which I found listed on the Columbia University Center for Career Education Handshake platform. As a junior, majoring in Biochemistry with a concentration in Psychology, I believe the clinical internship is an ideal blend of my past academic, laboratory and extracurricular experiences. As an undergraduate research assistant at the Champagne Laboratory, which specializes in psychobiology, epigenetics and neuroscience, I’ve independently studied the gene expression and methylation profile of adult mice exposed to early-life maternal separation. In choosing the depression and anxiety target genes for my study, I’ve been exposed to a wealth of literature on anxiety and mood disorders. My experience studying the influence of nonoptimal early environments on the developing brain and later symptomatology of depression and anxiety has sparked an interest in pursuing a career in the molecular biology of psychiatric disorders.…

At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…

I have never experienced therapy, but always had imagined how the process would be. I pictured a couch and a therapist on a fancy chair like in the movies, and I would just lay there and vent about my problems. Initially, I was very excited to see someone whom I can speak with and possibly help me resolve my issues, but that excitement did not last long. Anxiety kicked in as I got a phone call from the therapist, informing me that we would start next week. I started to become very nervous about the whole client-therapist relationship, for what if I did not connect with.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. During my time there, nurses often approached me to provide small learning experiences and teach students how to be efficient. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…

My personal experience and take away from English 111 was what I expected it would be before I started the course. No, there was no “life changing” moment for me from this course and I honestly I can’t say I am a better or worse citizen for taking this class, but I can say my writing skills have improved, and that I feel more confident in my writing than prior to taking this course. Writing has and continues to be a challenge for me, I have no illusion that I will ever be a “perfect” or even a “good” writer for that matter, but because some of things I learned in how to prepare and to write an essay I feel I’m a much improved writer. Specifically the topics covered from the first module of this course help my development.…

I learned about the teaching and learning process through the course work I was given, the time I spent in the classroom teaching lessons, as well as the times that I sat back and just observed the preschool and elementary classrooms.…
