I have completed Suicide Safety Plans (SSP) on clients and have meet with them to discuss their suicidality. I have continued to make welfare check calls to clients who have been flagged as high risk for suicide and document any interactions with clients in the VA’s tracking system (CPRS). I have also attended a staff meeting for the entire Social Work Services Department and was introduced to the staff by the Acting Chief of Social Work. Everyone was so welcoming and there were a lot of Florida State University fans/graduates in the crowd. The feeling that I felt after the meeting was very warm and inviting. I would consider that experience to be my highlight of the week. I have not had any negative encounters this week.
On Friday, June 9th, my husband and I celebrated 10 years of marriage. We planned to go to the beach over the weekend. However, our plans changed and we decided to go shopping and to dinner. During that time, I decided to take a few minutes to enjoy a massage in one of the chairs in the mall for my self-care regimen (please see attached image). The massage was great even though it was in a mall chair. It was different from the other mall massage chairs, this one not only massaged my back, it also massaged my legs. I was happy I chose to give it a try. I am sure I will be doing it again real soon.

Also the benefits massage brings is that, Massages improves a person’s immune system; it also improves circulation, increasing the flow of oxygen to and nutrients to cells and tissues, this is important because if for instance someone is a smoker it can mean that this individual can still get a massage without having difficulty breathing. Therefore if a patient receives a massage it wouldn’t affect the individual in any way which is a positive aspect, unless he has some sort of irritation to the oils. Massaging helps the circulation of the body and helps a client physically, mentally as it can be a form of distressing mechanism. Massaging would allow clients to feel less anxious and he/she wouldn’t feel so stressed. If regular massages were done, the individual would feel less depressed and it would allow them to feel better about themselves.…

She encouraged questions, and thoroughly explained why certain treatments and activities were better than others. She allowed for open communication of patient interventions, which made me feel comfortable enough to take on more of her case load and contributed to my visual, and hands on style of learning.
