Cards? What Cards?

“Welcome class,” said the teacher at Math Enrichment. There I was in the summer, sitting at my desk with a deck of cards in my pocket and a big binder in front of me full of math problems that I would be learning in 8th grade. Chattering filled every corner as. Then five minutes later, it was silent as the night. Nobody said a single word. I labored over my problems for about half an hour, but I could not take it anymore. I rushed through the problems, not caring it I did a good job or not. I did not care to get a good grade, thinking this was not really school at all and it was just a waste of time.
I slipped my right hand into my pocket and grabbed a deck of blue Bicycle Cards. Then I opened the deck, looking at the 54 cards, thinking, “Should I take it out or not?.”
It was a hard decision because the class was so boring. I had finished all of my problems, I had nothing to do, and I would be wasting an hour just sitting there doing nothing. But if I took this risk, I would risk having my cards taken away as if I were in school. I just told myself do what makes me happy, but that was just dumb.

I had two paths: Path one was to take NO chances and just put the cards back into the deck and face how boring the class was. The second option was to take out the cards and risk having them taken from me. I didn’t really think about it, and I went with the not-so-good decision. I shuffled the cards, trying to shuffle softly.I was not quiet enough for the teacher’s dog-like hearing powers. I saw her move her head in my direction. She saw me and from that point on, I thought, “Oh, poop.” because my cards were about to be taken away and sent to her drawer full of lost

After 4 hours of math, science and history it was finally time to get our stuff and walk over to the junior high for the 8th grade graduation rehearsal. I grabbed my backpack with my lunch and the book I’ve been reading “From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler”. Now that everyone has their stuff, we started walking.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

I was drowning out the world with the music playing through my phone, twirling the headphone cord around my finger. My hand brushed across the paper as I erased some pencil markings. I observed the text on the brightly lit screen of my chromebook, searching for the answers to the questions on my homework. I stared at the screen with a look of confusion on my face. Little did I know that the next few moments would put my hard work to some use.…

We got these packets that were open book, then he read us the answers so we had something to study with for the big test. The class was so boring , even the people who usually were quiet in regular school where talking. It got so noisy, that Mr.tuch had to stop and say, with a angry face, and a monstrous voice, “I don’t know if I even wanna drive with you guys. All of you are acting like children, and I don't feel safe with children driving a vehicle when i'm in the passenger seat. After that moment it got awkwardly quiet in there and Mr.tuch continued teaching us the lesson.…

We walked into the air conditioned building from the smoldering heat. This was the hard part; Jordy and I had to part ways and go to different classes. As we left each other the nerves grew inside me like a shaken up soda waiting for a fool to open it and explode. Praying that I had friends in my class, I walked in unsure if my legs were weak because of the anxiety I was feeling about who I was going to eat lunch with or the long hike I was going to have to take daily to Mrs.…

For my Personal narrative I began with a quick brainstorm of many different events that I remembered in detail about my life. I narrowed down the things I would love to talk about rather than other parts of my life growing up that didn’t appeal to me. I set a simple three goals for my Personal narrative to reach by the time I turned in my last final draft. I told myself I would limit grammar errors along with run on sentences. My second goal was to get at least an A- on this paper since it was my first one I have written in a while.…

Now that I look back on the occasion, I feel angry at myself for yielding for such an idiotic reason. In my freshmen year, I was presented with the opportunity to advance into geometry since I had previously taken Algebra I in the eighth grade. However, I did not go for it; I did not grab that opportunity when I had the chance all because I didn’t have the comfort of my friends. Instead of taking on the more advanced math class, I declined to do so simply because, at the time, separation from my friends was undesirable; at that point companionship was a paramount priority instead of what is best for me individually. The chief justification as to why I was so set on staying close to my friends was due to the fact that I feared the thought of being so distant from what I was so familiar with.…

In the eighth grade, I remember that in less than a week I made half of the student body resent me. I had just moved to a new school in a new neighborhood, and I was eager to prove myself. On my first day, I walked into my favorite class – science and was the only person to answer the teacher’s questions. In my old school, I was learning something entirely different, but I still knew the answer because it was about my favorite subject. Everyone was pretty shocked, and I didn’t understand all the looks that my classmates were giving me.…
