Does the world have a plan to cure one of the world's deadliest diseases? Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that so far cannot be cured. It is the sixth leading cause of death in American adults. It affects about 13 million people worldwide. One in eight people around the age of 65 has it. And about 1 in 2 people over age 85 have Alzheimer’s disease. People with Alzheimer’s survive about half as long as same aged adults without it. How do we get this disease, and how quickly can our world find a cure for it? Head injuries, genes, and sleep can cause the deadly disease.
Studies have shown that head injuries in early life can cause Alzheimer’s Disease later in life. A concussion is where you temporarily black out due to a blast to the head. This is also not good for contact sports players because of concussions and the head to head contact that can affect most people playing sports. There is an average of 1.6 to 3.8 million head injuries due to sports. The immediate effects of a blast to the head can include dementia symptoms, such as confusion, memory loss, and changes in speech, vision, and personality.
