USC Journal 1: NCBI Reflection I found the NCBI workshop to be a great way to gain insight into the lives of other members of the Summer START program, much of which happened on a level that may never have been reached otherwise. Many of the people who presented their opinions or stories also conveyed their passion, or even anger, over the struggle they faced and how they wanted to improve others reactions or thoughts towards that element of their personality. Having lived on NC State’s campus last summer for a program, I was already familiar with the pace and expectations that Summer START would hit me with, and I feel that I have adjusted to and met those challenges on better footing because of that. Despite this familiarity, this experience still feels, and in many ways is very different from last summer. This time, there is a note of finality to it- knowing that this summer will act as a transition into my “officially” starting college in the fall, opening the next chapter of my life.
