We were babysitting our brothers while our parents were at work. I was telling him how good I’ve gotten at driving and that our grandma even let me drive on the big crowded roads. That part was a bit exaggerated, but his eagerness to hear more fed my big ego. I saw his eyes widened and they simply begged for a promising story. I explained how I would run errands all the time, sometimes even all by myself. I continued to enhance the story by telling him how a drunk driver ran a red light and missed me just by inches. I told him that I spun in circles leaving black tire streaks and clouds of smoke in the air. I supposedly got off the car and cussed out the driver, but the “drunk driver” had already sped off leaving me no chance in getting a license plate number. We went into the kitchen, but only to open up a lonely fridge with a gallon of juice we should probably have saved for the kids’ lunches. We had a cup of the fruity juice, but George suggested we went to Starbucks to satisfy our thirst and cravings. The hot, dry weather made it unbearable to even think about walking there, although it was only a few blocks away. We saw my grandma’s car keys dangling on the key hook and almost instantly we had the same idea. I ran to the wall and yanked them off the hook. I was a little nervous to go on with the devious deed because I had no experience driving outside the neighborhood. I even suggested an alternative to starbucks. I proposed we made homemade ice coffees because I wanted to try out a new recipe. He taunted me and questioned me on whether I was too scared to go or what was my reason to deny his request? My pride was too high to come clean so I agreed to take my grandma’s car out for a drive. The walk from the house to the driveway seemed so much longer than it really was. In the back of my mind I was contemplating on our actions and our possible consequences. Still, we sat in the driveway and I didn’t move a muscle. I felt myself tense up. Suddenly I was really hot and it wasn’t the weather. He teased me once more and I finally turned on the car.
