How To Write A Narrative Essay About My First Day In The Military

Pass-In-Review Nicholas Negron, ECPI University My father would always tell me, “What you get out of anything is how much effort you put into it”. Never would I have imagined that this day would come! The blood, sweat, tears and all of those restless nights have finally paid off as I’m standing tall in my uniform as proud as I ever been in my life. It was the summer of the year 2008, August 17 to be exact; this might have been a normal day for most people, but this was the first day of my new beginning and it was actually the first time I finished something that I started. I proved everybody wrong and I proved myself right. This was my graduation day, the day I transitioned from a civilian to a sailor. The day that I knew deep down inside would always come, but at the time, even with high expectations of myself …show more content…
My parents were obviously upset that I didn’t finish high school, but it became quite clear that even though I was an intelligent young man, I did not have the discipline for school. I had to take another course of action, I have always thought about the military since I was a child, I had an uncle who served in the army who I truly looked up to and I figured maybe I go join the military to receive the discipline I needed. I had no intentions of telling my family I was joining the military since I already knew the remarks I would get about starting something that I probably would not finish. I called the Navy recruiting office in Downtown Brooklyn and as soon as the recruiter picked up the phone I told her “There’s no need to sell me, I just wanted to leave as fast as possible!” 6 Months later it was June 17, 2008, and I was in Great Lakes, Illinois at recruit training command. A new recruit who was trying to aspire to transition into something much more such as a disciplined, well mannered, fast thinking, team playing sailor. I learned so much about myself in those 9 weeks than I had my whole

Everybody has done something about which they are proud, whether it be winning a competition, sacrificing their time to helps others, or achieving a personal goal. Looking back on my life, there are several accomplishments of which I am quite proud. I I have completed The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Bootcamp. It is a U.S. Navy-based organization that serves to teach individuals about the sea going military services, U.S. naval operations and training, community service, citizenship, and an understanding of discipline and teamwork. Each Cadet must attend NSCC recruit training, which serves to introduce each "recruit" to the standards and routine involved in the life of a Sea Cadet.…

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

At one point I was aimlessly running through the hallways of my new home, Bancroft Hall, when several upper-class midshipmen responsible for training me that summer, swarmed me yelling, “What are you doing?” to which I replied, “I literally have no idea!” All I remember from the swearing-in ceremony was blinding light and struggling more than I have ever struggled in my life to keep my eyes open. Upon agreeing to “well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter” and shouting those momentous two words, I was officially tied to the Navy. After the ceremony, all of us plebes were granted an hour to spend with family and friends.…

A half decade in the Marine Corps does certainly does a number on one’s faculties. Admittedly I was never much of an academic before, but by God the years of instant obedience to orders and a ‘keep it simple, stupid!’ mindset was not the miracle cure for my scholastic woes. With that being said, coming into English 105 I didn’t know if I’d excel or make a damn fool of myself, seeing the amount of cobwebs that had sprung up between my ears. To my surprise, I actually got off to a decent start it seems. One C, then nothing but A’s and B’s, not to shabby for a slackjawed jarhead.…

I was sixteen years old and on the verge of becoming just another high school dropout. My life had become overwhelmingly complicated due to an initial depression, which grew stronger as I gave up on much of what was important for me at the time. This downward spiral had to end. Finally, I withdrew from high school halfway through my sophomore year, but not before voluntarily choosing to attend a military school 600 miles away from home. A free program designed for dropouts and sponsored by the national guard, this was a place where I could recover all of my high school credits and set myself up for success.…

Senior year I did everything my father asked of me, I was a short stop for my high school baseball team and also played safety for the varsity football team. When I would come home from a long day of practice my father would be there on his couch waiting anxiously for me to ask me what branch I would be joining. He would always say “Once a Marine always a Marine, Semper Fi!” which I would reply with a quick whip “Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Essential SIR!” This response usually ended up with me running laps around the block and cleaning the garage on my weekends off.…

Everyone has that one person that has impacted them in more ways than one during high school, whether it be a teacher, parent, family member or even a student. Rayven was a five-foot tall, Native American girl with a spicy attitude. She had the darkest hair and the deepest blue eyes you could imagine, and she could warm a room the second she flashed her gorgeous smile. There was no such thing as a bad day to her because “every day above ground is a good day,” as she would always say. I had just entered the halls of Mulvane High School as a freshman.…

My First Job I always wanted a job while I was attending high school, but because of my age every place that I applied to didn’t want to hire me. The places I applied were looking for people that were at least eighteen years old with experience. So instead I ended up doing seasonal jobs because the companies were just looking for people during holiday seasons. Once I graduated, I started applying to different places again and finally got a call back for an interview. I was excited to work at Macy’s because it was known as a prestigious company.…
