How To Write A Narrative Essay About My Working Experience

Two months ago, I received a job interview to work at an assisted and independent living facility called Cascade Inn, and to say it went well would be stretching the truth a bit far. At the start, my nervousness was clearly showing through my continuous strained smile and timid voice, leading up to the lagging in my brain as I struggled to comprehend some of the questions. More likely convinced from my mom and older sister’s work relation there, I was hired. From the beginning, I was a typical young teenager with low self-esteem scared to do anything wrong. I was frightened of the possibilities of failure, but these previous months at work completely altered my view to where I now feel comfort in the people I work with. Seeing that it was my first job, the first week of work was dreadful. With no previous experience around a working environment, I had no base to refer to. High school environment hasn't exactly prepared me for the fast pace of an assisted facility. To say the least, Cascade Inn was a giant wake up call. With work starting at six in the morning and lasting eight hours long, my stamina couldn't keep up with me throughout the day. Since I wasn't an actual resident assistant, I only helped the CNA’s with any extra work needed to be done. Slowly, with the help of my …show more content…
Constantly on my feet, fast walking from one end of the building to another, I try and help every elderly as soon as I can. Coworkers on the clock with me know what’s needed to be done and I know the same. With myself being an extra pair of helping hands, they know that they can count on me to aid in miscellaneous tasks. On days where it’s slow, we pass the time by sharing our hilarious experiences with other residents and chat about our individual personal life. Through working here, I have found a group of people that I can trust and rely on. Not only are these people my coworkers, they are also my

Over a year ago little did I realize how much my life would change by accepting a job as a receptionist at Prestige Urgent Care. Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

As an occupational therapy graduate student, I had already decided, working with seniors was not for me. I wanted to work with exciting clients, in an exhilarating envrioment; not in a nursing facility. However, as I had just learned, I would I would be stuck there for the next six weeks observing and assisting an occupational therapist. On my first day, I slowly pulled into the parking lot. “Well here I am,” I thought as I got out of the car, “it’s only six weeks, I can do this.”…

I frequently find myself writing at work, at Intermountain Medical Center as a Patient Care Tech and as a Health Unit Coordinator. Often I am writing for myself, writing to my coworkers, other departments in the hospital and writing for as well as to my boss. As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. For my reflective essay I have chosen to look at the challenges of working with older people in a health and human service setting and in particular how this would challenge me to work as an effective practitioner in the discipline of nutrition. In the last five years I have worked and spent time with older adults from different settings, some who are healthy and engaged in all areas of their lives, living independently and contributing to their community. I have also spent time with older adults who are determined to live out their years in their own home despite chronic pain, disease and social isolation and finally I have worked with older adults living in aged care facilities who have multiple conditions, prescribed multiple medications…

Everyone worked together and treated each other like a family so that helped me to be comfortable working with them.
