“Track Tryouts are today. The Wolves had not gotten a gold medal in 12 years I could win the gold," Ryan explains to Sarah. "You do know that Eli is running for the Red Hawks right," Sarah tells Ryan with disappointment. Eli is the fastest kid in their league, he runs a hundred meters in 10.2 seconds. "I know, but he might be in a different heat this year," Ryan says hopefully.…
Jeremy woke up feeling infirm on Wednesday morning. This was a terrible, awful, no good, very bad problem because soccer tryouts were going on that afternoon. He had a splitting headache, terrible sinus infection, and a sore throat. He took many different types of medications to try and alleviate his symptoms, but none of them worked. He just lie in bed writhing while importuning his mother to drive him to the tryouts.…
Our attitude led to us hitting a losing streak, until we played Cleveland Football Club, the 3rd highest ranked team in the mid-west region, we ended up losing to the team by one in a 2-3 game. This game gave us hope, we ended up playing teams hard again and winning most of the second half of our season. By the end of the season the team ended up falling apart, some players left to go to one team, some to another, I however ended up being the only person going to Cleveland Football Club. I went to the tryouts where I felt very comfortable because I had played on the same team as most of the guys there back at Brunswick travel. After three tryout practices, I found my spot on the team being one of the few who ended up making it onto the…
Cheerleading Tryouts “Come on Lauren you’ve been doing this way too long, you’ve been on the team every year since you were 14.” I said to myself as I walk through the halls of my High School. Today is May 24, the first day of the annual cheerleading try outs and for some reason I’m extremely nervous even though I’m a three year veteran. I go through my classes talking to all my other cheer friends saying how this is going to be a breeze and how we can’t wait to start the season even though my stomach is literally overwhelmed with butterflies. DING DING DING!!!…
Outside of my academic activities, I have a strong passion for sports and exercise. As a student-athlete for over 14 years, I have learned the value of hard-work, dedication, and determination. Establishing these invaluable attributes early on made it possible for me to become an NCAA Division III lacrosse athlete. Sports dramatically shaped the person I am today and taught me how to step to work in unison with my teammates to achieve a common goal and simultaneously step up as a leader.…
Baseball has taught me more life lessons than I could ever imagine. Baseball is one of the most challenging games due to the fact it is a sport of failure. How can one fail seven out of ten times and still be considered exceptional? A three out of ten in most applications of life is very poor, however in baseball, succeeding three times out of ten is considered excellent. However, one still manages to fail seven times!…
A nail bitter, teeth clincher, bone shaker. This game was everything you want when you take the family out for an evening of high school basketball. The Falcons and The Stallions battled tick for tac down to the very last second, but there could only be one winner. The first quarter was a bit sloppy, a lot of missed baskets, a lot of fouls, and plenty of turnovers, no one had gone on a stretch, after the first quarter the score was Green Run 10 Cox 9.…
Then my sophomore year rolls around and I was a cocky kid who thought he was untouchable on the baseball field. I didn’t take my offseason workouts seriously, and practice seriously. New kids came who were honestly much better than me, so when tryouts came I was ill prepared. At the end of tryouts I did not make the final cut.…
An Athlete’s Worst Nightmare Imagine you are going along playing the sport you love, when all of a sudden you hear a pop, your knee gives out, and you are on the ground in pain. This happened to me not once, but twice. After going to the doctor both times, they figured out I tore my ACL.…
The other day I walked into practice and just took a moment to think about how far I have come. I had never really thought about it before. It blew my mind that a shy girl turned into this outgoing and confident girl. It made me realize how much cheer has made me grow as a person and develop me into who I am…
As a student athlete who moved multiple times, I built many relationships with my teachers and coaches. I will always remember the teachers and coaches that had a positive impact on my life, whether it was in second grade or my senior year of high school. When I entered college, I contemplated majoring in Education and going straight into teaching because it was of serious interest to me. However, I chose to go another route with my major. After working for a few years in another field, I decided that it was time to strive for a profession that enthused me.…
I never realized that it meant so much to me. I never realized that all of the blood, sweat, and tears would actually pay off. Until 8th grade tryouts, I didn’t even know why I played basketball. On this day, I had to compete for a spot on the basketball team against 30 to 40 other players. Just let me tell you, hardwork and dedication does pay off.…
Everyone said it was really hard to make the team and it was going to be harder for me because I never danced before. I was so nervous, but I was determined to make the team. Every day after we learned the dance I would go home and practice some more for hours. Doing this showed myself and others (such as my family) that I was dedicated and hard-working. This was something I never have seen before in…
It was my senior year of basketball and it was just getting started. This was it, my final year where we were going to win State and I was going to get a college scholarship. I had prepared all summer and in the preseason, nothing was going to get in my way. Our team was smaller this year and lacked the skill we had in the previous years, but that just meant I was going to have to step up even more. I was totally ready for the season and whatever challenges we would face as a team.…
When a person decided to be in a sport, their main focus is being the best they can be. They just want to be the star on the team, and do what they have to do. Those amateurs usually disregard the rest of their team, and has some serious attitude adjustments in store for them. They usually have hard crashes when they do not play up to par, or do not start in the games. It takes a while for them to understand being on a team, and they will soon learn that you can not be on a team without chemistry and expect excellence .When I decided to play softball in middle school, I was selfish and it took high school softball for me to get rid of it.…
