How To Write A Lack Of School Funding Essay

School funding and financing is a hot topic from the federal government all the way down to school boards of small rural school districts. Often times the conversation is discussing the lack of funding or the inequality of funding from state to state or school district to school district. As an administrator but even more importantly as a U.S. Citizen it is invaluable to know how schools are funded. Schools play a huge part in our lives for many reasons, none more important than schools is the place our family members go for an education. Knowing where and how much funding for your neighborhood school comes from can determine many important life decisions and where you should reside.
School Financing
Pennsylvania schools get the majority of the district funding from three main sources, local funding, state funding, and federal funding. The majority of the states including Pennsylvania, local funding provides the majority of the revenue for the schools. Local funding comes from a variety of sources like property taxes. In Pennsylvania, state funding is around forty percent of the total school funding. In my particular district thirty-three percent of districts, funding comes from the state. The state funding differs based on the State funding can potentially be very different from state to state. States use a diverse set of formulas that lead to the amount of funding from the state that a particular district will receive. The majority of the formulas used include student population and the characteristics of the population. For instance, more funding could be provided to a school with a large percentage of English Language Learners or students that receive free and reduced lunch.
