Pennsylvania schools get the majority of the district funding from three main sources, local funding, state funding, and federal funding. In Pennsylvania, state funding is around forty percent of the total school funding. In my particular district thirty-three percent of districts, funding comes from the state. The state funding differs based on the State funding can potentially be very different from state to state. States use a diverse set of formulas that lead to the amount of funding from the state that a particular district will receive. The majority of the formulas used include student population and the characteristics of the population. For instance, more funding could be provided to a school with a large percentage of English Language Learners or students that receive free and reduced lunch.
