Sarah is a smart, reliable, and cunning guide. She learns all of her survival tips from an older Bushman, Theo. The five teenagers, Sarah has to guide, each have very unique personalities. One of the teenagers is Sam, a sweet and caring boy who always breaks up fights between the others. Another teenager is Miranda who is used to life being easy and does not like the conditions of the semi-desert. Kase is Miranda’s friend who is helpful and sweet. Avani is smart and shares facts about all the animals and plants they encounter. On the other hand, the last teenager, Joey, is a funny boy who is always making jokes and is known for his antics. At one point, Avani was explaining a scientific theory to the group and Joey responded, ”I sure hope there's not a quiz on this later because I have no idea what’s coming out of your mouth right now”(p 150). All the characters are different, but they will need to use all their unique attributes to survive.
