The survival rates for stomach cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer are better than ever before in the United States. There is so much education on treatments of cancer, and how to identify the first warning signs of cancer. In the United States, 9 out of 10 kids diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia will live. In other countries there is a clear decline in the survival percentage. For example, in Jordan, the survival rate is 16 percent. The startling differences in survival rates of cancer patients, not surprisingly, directly correlates to how much is invested in cancer. Due to cultural, and economic reasons many countries are lacking in much needed treatment and diagnostic centers. Uganda has 57 tribes, each with a different language. Many tribes don't even have a word for cancer. There has been a lot of progress, but there is still so much that these countries need. Jordan and Uganda's problem is not only cultural but economic. It would take a lot of hard work and dedication, as do all good things that pay off in the end. Through lots of planning, fundraising, and coordinating, I propose creating more hospitals in these countries. Not simple health care center, but specialized facilities that could provide the amount of care and instruction these cancer patients need. I believe that the skill set that I will build throughout college will make a huge difference in becoming involved in the progress of cancer treatment. One of my many goals is to become a nurse practitioner and specialize in pediatrics. Using my anticipated skill set from college, I plan not only fund raise for these countries but create treatment programs. Through hard work and dedication, I know that I will be able to make a difference in health
