Three and a half months have passed by and my final semester and internship with Working Group on Girls is complete. In the past few weeks it was just a rush on editing the advocacy cards to make sure all grammatical errors and the language was appropriate to be presented for the WGG Membership Meeting. On December 3rd, I presented the advocacy cards. It was a wonderful feeling to feel accomplished to present the cards that have been worked for the past three months with Erica. Everyone was very pleased with the result, the research, and time taken from my schedule to do this. Overall, the response was very positive. During my time with working Group on Girls, I have definitely learned a lot. I learned the community WGG serves is girls who

This week I had the opportunity to work with Paula, who was a breaker nurse. Since she was breaking, I had a chance to work with the men and women side. To be honest, I felt more comfortable being on the women's side. In fact, I was actually not nervous being on the floor that I felt comfortable joining a bracelet activity where I bonded with Mele and John. One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

This year has been my first year participating in Global Girls and I can, without hesitation, say that several of the conversations held during the meetings have been some of the most honest, crisp discussions I have taken a part in. My personal belief in the great significance of these kinds of conversations is one of the driving factors for my interest in being co head of Global Girls. If selected as co-head, I will really focus on creating more of these organic conversations that speak about the core of an issue. The importance of brisk, articulate conversations was really emphasized to me during my participation in the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in December of last year. I was chosen, along with four other Brearey girls, to go to this conference in Atlanta, Georgia and I had the privilege of engaging in conversations with teenagers from around the country about different social…

Sure, I occasionally helped my grandma babysit my little cousins, but other than that, I did not have much experience. I quickly learned how to adapt with over 100 hours of service at the Boys and Girls Club and I couldn’t be more thankful.…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

Reflection When signing up to take the Final Project Course this fall I was extremely nervous and not excited to start. Walking into the first day of class and learning more about what the final project would entail, I did feel slightly better but still scared that it was going to be too overwhelming and hard to complete by myself. Luckily, the individual meetings and emails with my professor made everything much more clear and inviting. These final project meetings were very helpful in terms of receiving constructive criticism and then going back home to make changes to the paper.…
