All hell broke loose. The room turned upside down, on its back, inside out, went crazy, flipped out. Other words, other clichés. What is a God? Is He a higher being someone made up to feel better when people did something bad? Or the “person” that is up in the sky waiting for us to join Him after we die? Or a real, loving, caring higher power whose always has your back? A Christian God is a God who holds all morals and who does not want to see His people hurting, but wanting them to succeed and have a great life.…

The sky is blue, morning blue, when the sun is just rising, at about 6 o’clock. The chilly Autumn morning made me feel safe as I peered out the dew lined window. Leaves blew across the street, yet not too many because it's early in the season. Then out of the corner of my eye, amongst the beautiful fall scenery and warm houses was a guy, creeping out the back mill door.…

Baseball Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports, and it will always be the longest sport I’ve played. A total of 9 years in Khoury league and 2 years in high school, so all in all I have been playing this sport almost all my life. Those 15 kids playing on that team became some of my bestest friends and greatest teammates to have. Most of them ended up being with me until we couldn't play khoury league anymore, and then only about 3 or 5 of them played school ball with me.…

Many of William Faulkner’s works may be catagorized under the Southern Gothic genre. In this essay, I will explore and prove that the novel “A Light in August” and the short story “A Rose for Emily” are indeed, Southern Gothic writings. Characteristics of Southern Gothic writings are presented in these stories by Faulkner’s use of the lurid murders of Joe Christmas and Joanna Burden in “A Light in August”, and Homer Barron in “A Rose for Emily”, we also see disillusioned and reclused personalities in characters such as Rev. Hightower and Emily Grierson, and finally we see the topic of race portrayed in these stories as a negative, crippling force in society. One of the more familiar characteristics of Southern Gothic literature involves grotesque,…
