Two Recent Wootton High Graduates Die in Fatal Car Crash

Late in the evening of Thursday, June 25th, 18 year old Samuel Ellis, of North Potomac, lost control of his 2006 Acura TSX, as he attempted to drive around a sharp bend in the 13800 block of Dufief Mill Road. The conservative posted speed limit is partly because of the deep bend in the road plus, Travilah Elementary School is also located in the same block just across the road from the accident scene. It was fortunate that this tragic fatality did not occur during the daytime when young children would have been exposed to the

Ellis, who was wearing a seat belt, was hospitalized with critical injuries. The other front seat passenger, a 17 year old male Wootton High School student, whose name was not released, was wearing a seat belt and survived the crash with minor injuries.

The two 18 year old males in the back seat were not wearing their seat belts and died instantly at the scene. Alexander Murk, of Potomac, and Calvin Jia-Xing Li, of Rockville were graduating classmates with Ellis. All three had graduated one month earlier from Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, where they excelled at sports, and all three were headed to different colleges. Of the hundreds of high schools in Maryland, Wootton is ranked #4 in the state by U.S. News Best High Schools and the school has a Gold Medal rating.

A few cans of cool beer were found at the scene in the car’s wreckage and police officers at the scene stated that they believe that both alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the accident. In May, AAA released a report that labels the time span between Memorial Day and Labor Day as the “100 Deadliest Days” for teen

After reviewing the driving handbook I found the statistics crazy. When teens get their licenses I think they don’t have the knowledge that more experienced drivers have. When teenagers drive they tend to not have the knowledge to correct their mistakes. One adult statistic is the number one for death to an adult, is speeding %42. I also think this is a mistake to, because when drivers think they have more experience they think they can drive faster and take more risky chances.…

In reality, not only is it wrong morally, I feel, but it's also wrong from a safety and a physical standpoint. In reality, in the same car crash, a big heavy guy is wrong for several reasons.…
