I miss you!
When I met Mary-Ann I became a pretty lucky person because I knew I had the one of the best Aunts ever. Mary-Ann, who was born with down-syndrome, never let the disease stop her from reaching her goals. Mary-Ann was a wonderful person, who always cared for others before herself. Numerous things were obstacles for her but she always found a way to lend a hand. “ You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” Mary always wanted to impact someone's life whether it was by singing happily or just showing her full-size smile.

Mary handed out an offering to everyone and didn’t receive a single item back. Additionally, at no time did she complain about not getting anything, but instead she continued to smirk. While being around her I’ve concluded that everything isn’t just about offering and collecting, it’s about offering and not getting anything back. By just a single experience I’ve become more into a person who is willing to do whatever to help make a change in the world. I used to believe everything I did to aid others that I should expect at least a little prize back. Although, in all reality “giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference.” After complaining a ton that day, I now know that when I get an article I must thank the person for thinking of me when they could have used their kindness to help others in need. Meanwhile, when I get a gift that I may not want or need I ought to preserve it because it’s a reminder that some people give more than what they

On a blazing hot afternoon, I was with my Peer Ministry. It seemed like our whole group, interacting with the sizable population of homeless on the streets of Riverside, CA, was working like a fast food crew; we were distributing food from our cars at a superhuman pace. This activity seemed like any ordinary job our group did together — until I handed a brown paper bag to a homeless African American man. His expression registered shock. He put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Son, how did you know I needed help?”…

Do you believe that you are responsible for the safety and well-being of others? If you saw someone in the street in need asking for help, would you help them? Or would you just walk away? Most of you would ignore them and walk away. Others may listen, but probably not care to help them.…

When I was only ten years old, I told my mother I wanted to be a funeral director and/or embalmer when I got older. Thirteen years later, I am still saying that same phrase, but only this time it is hitting a little closer to home. I have been waiting 4,745 days to finally be able to say that I am only one year away from achieving that long term goal of mine and I could not be more excited. Although I knew exactly what I wanted to do at such young age, I did not apply to mortuary science school straight out of high school like I could have. After I received my academic honors diploma from high school, I attended Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame.…

Dear Mr. Pathman, Thank you so much for taking the time to interview me last week. I was surprised by how much we had in common; not only did we both live on Collins third floor freshman year at Wake, but we also both have a passion for GI research! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me a bit about the medical school's housing system, and I hope that after our conversation, Hit the Bricks will be an event that will promote friendly competition between medical students while also benefitting the Brian Piccolo Cancer Foundation. In addition, it was a pleasure to discuss my love of music and some of the ways in which my world travels with the Philadelphia Boys Choir will impact me as a physician. Thank you again for your time, and…

“If you make yourself into a doormat, people will wipe their feet on you,” accommodated from Belizean Proverb. People who usually sacrifice their interests for others at all time, are often either limiting their own success by spending most of their time focusing on others, they never get their own work done, or they are abused by selfish people who view them as people who they can step on and take advantage of. Sorry if the email bothers you, I just want to share what has been on my mind, and you can read the words whenever you are willing to. I am sorry that when the incident happened on Monday, I was not emotionally prepared at all, so I could not focus on anything else besides my feelings of being confused, conflicted and hurt. I feel bad that I called you 20 minutes before your politics class, because I wanted to figure things out, but you also have a life besides the drama. Essay #1 For centuries, children in Sunday school have been confused over the lesson “it is better to give than to receive.” Everyone agrees that it sounds really nice, but to be honest, hardly any of them are convinced. Receiving an ice cream cone, a new toy, or an extra $10 certainly seems a lot better than giving those things away! That lesson is hard to learn for one simple reason. When we give to others, we lose things that are easy to understand: money, stuff, free time.…
