It makes sense in a critical reflective paper to actually consider what happens when things are likely to go wrong or put another way not to completely dwell in the past and forget the purpose of the journey to start with. Wilson (2008) outlined what it meant to reflect on the future by observing the past actions, and in this assignment looking at the feedback from the course tutor as well as the cohort and my professional practice I would like to postulate that having an alternative, should something go wrong, incorporates the elements of good reflection. In fact Boud and Walker (1998) agree that while demystifying the learning process and taking a step back to identify what has been learnt may not be productive for everyone, it converts the …show more content…
I met the weeks’ basic objectives, such as become more ethically considerate at work when preparing questionnaires for surveys, or when I was asked to join colleagues preparing to submit their papers for publication at work, but I know I need to brush up on the little details around research design. When considering the second or last module in the series of the Doctorate Programme, I know that I will be better prepared by the steps I have already taken through downloading all the syllabus for the modules and creating separate folders in Mendeley, a referencing software Dr Gray suggested during my tutorial session. I read a lot and write extensively which requires both skills to be in line with critical aspects demanded by academic context ( Richards & Miller, 2005; Lee, 2008; Murray & Hughes, 2008; Wallace & Wray, 2011). Likewise, when I will have started the thesis stage, I will have collected materials that will have been catalogued according to the interesting questions they will most likely be answering (Alvesson & Sandberg,

Critical reflections provide clarity on the purpose of a story, demonstrating its significance. The reflection I presented in my narrative was that we never stop learning; through positive an negative experiences, we continuously learn and grow as people. Furthermore, these elements serve as an outline for the audience to follow and create a greater sense of credibility by demonstrating that the author is aware of an effective way to present a story, so that the purpose is met. Conclusion…

The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…

Experience without reflection does not lead to learning and improving professional practice. However, through effective reflection a teacher can move from problematizing an experience or justifying a response to focussing on learning from the experience and improving professional practice. It is only through reflection that the teacher can view the learning context from a variety of viewpoints. Once new understanding is gained it can then be applied to practice.…

How would I describe this class? I would probably say without hesitation that this class is grueling, exhausting, and stressful (just kidding). Although, I would have to admit that somewhere in the back of my mind, I realize how valuable a class like this is. Nowadays, everywhere I look, people are glued to their phones or other devices; when I was in middle school before everyone had a smartphone, people actually read books in their free time. It is quite sad how many students of this generation will not pick up a book unless it is assigned to them.…

Reflection is to revise, to rethink and to take a step back and make sure something is at your best preference. This term is one that I always knew existed, but didn’t apply it to my own work or to my own life. However, now that I know exactly where to apply it, I realize it doesn’t have to be only in education. It could be used in education, in one’s career and life says Sandra L. Giles. It’s interesting because I know exactly what it is, yet I never found the urge to actually apply it.…

Reflective practice enables teachers to respond to present situations and think about past experiences that will help guide teaching and objective decision-making. A reflective practice also involves objective thinking which then can avoid bias tendencies. Teacher reflections help assess present classroom situations and improve future ones. In such practice, it is equally important for teachers to examine their own philosophies, values, and beliefs in teaching (Rice, 2013).…

Writing papers for school has given me the opportunity to learn more about a variety of topics. I returned to college about six years ago after a very lengthy hiatus. I enrolled in three classes at Charter Oak State College (COSC), one accelerated course at a time. At that time some of the more interesting papers that I had written were on Designer Babies and comparing the Modern and Post Modern theories of play. I struggled with the new way of doing research, I originally started college in 1980, but once I got the hang of it I enjoyed learning about the topic.…

Throughout English 2010 I have grown immensely as a writer. Perhaps the most useful skill that I 've learned is how to use different methods of writing. Each piece of writing has a different purpose, and usually has different flow than other writing. For example, we wrote an exploratory essay at one point in the semester, and later wrote a persuasive researched essay. These two essays have completely different structures that reach out to the audience and aid the writer in expressing his or her ideas.…
