Chapter One
This chapter began with the narrator, Huckleberry Finn, narrating his account of the events in the previous book, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”. Huckleberry reminds the reader that he received a share in the treasure found in the previous book and how he still receives interest on the gold as it is stored in the bank. Huckleberry also speaks about how was adopted by Widow Douglas and lives with her and how her decent and predictable way of life goes against his principles of living an adventurous and fdsa life. Annoyed with life he was living with Widow Douglas, Huckleberry left her and instead went back to his old habits and lived by himself. Chapter Two
After meeting Tom, Huckleberry and Tom begin to silently creep past Widow Douglas' home but as the passed the kitchen, Huckleberry tripped over a root and made a noise which alerted Miss Watson's servant, Jim who had been in the kitchen. Jim began to search for the source of the noise and ends up right between Tom and Huckleberry. Concluding that there was no-one there, Jim sat at the foot of a tree and fell asleep. As soon as Jim fell asleep, Huckleberry and Tom made their way to the kitchen where they swiped three candles and left five cents on the table in the kitchen as payment. As they left the house, Tom, eager to cause mischief stole Jim's hat as he was sleeping and hung it on a nearby tree branch. This act of mischief led Jim to spin tall tales about how witches put him in a trance and carried him across the state of Missouri and left his hat on the tree has proof of the encounter. Jim's tales led slaves to flock to him in order to hear his tale and see the five-cent coin that he said the devil
