2. Tomi is a male who feels that he was born to be a woman. He is struggling because he grew up in a strict catholic family. Being the only male and child in his immediate family he has to be the next generation to lead the family. His friends believe he is wrong. Due to Tomi’s struggle within himself he is starting to drink, has bad eating and sleeping habits. One resource that would help Tomi is the LGBT group that is at his school. Although Tomi believes he is transgendered he’s having trouble being able to come fully out to his community due his family being catholic. The Catholic Church believes the LGBT community is sinners. Being an Hispanic he understand that they do not believe in being trans. This affects his relationship with his family. Institutionalized and internalized phobias could affect him. He may be apart of hate crimes and will not get the same rights as others. Tomi has acknowledged that he this he should be a girls however he has not come out to his family as transgendered. One dilemma that could be faced with the client is if my values and beliefs are against what the client thinks. Because this is a big problem in our society it is common that this could happen. When this problem arises we must remove ourselves and refer another clinician to the client. To be culturally complement clinicians must be able to understand the LGBT community. We must be able to be aware of the questions we ask when we interview them. In Tomi case we must be able to understand how children and teens go through this problem. We also have to understand the history of the LGBT community so we can help them with oppression and empower them. Empowerment plays a big role in the community because they do not have the same rights as other so we must help them get equal opportunities. WE also have to get Tomi to see that being Trans is okay and its our job to promote social justice. Panel discussions are big in college so the clinician can get Tomi to start
