In the book Night, written by Elie Wiesel, sorrow gradually advances from the very beginning of the book all the way to the end. In this section of the story Elie's father is now extremely sick, he's still living physically, but has died mentally. His father has told himself he can no longer continue and fight for his own life. Elie has been doing everything he can to keep his father by giving him his own rations of bread and cups of hot water. From the start Elie’s only goal was to be with his father no matter what the situation and Elie knows soon that his father will depart from the world.
