How To Wear Helmet Laws Persuasive Essay

Decent Essays
Would you want to have your life in danger?, well wearing a helmet is simply safer. In 1992, the state of California passed the helmet law and helmet use jumped from 50% to 99%, causing accident fatalities to decrease by 37%. However, wearing helmets could have more things that come along than just survival, but it helps more people, money wise. When an uninsured motorcyclist is injured in an accident, public funds often pay for the riders emergency care and people that can't pay, won't get neglected. A football helmet does a great job of protecting the brain from major injuries like blood clots, skull fractures, and scalp lacerations, but many times they do not protect against concussive injuries. The brain freely moves or “floats” in cerebrospinal fluid so a blow to the head can cause the brain to move within the skull and smack against it. A new design created by Dr. Julian Bailes at the Brain Injury Research Institute aims to prevent this scenario. Bailes explained that the motion of the brain after impact leads to the tearing of fibers which causes concussions. Bailes designed a neck collar with two small rubber beads that could reduce the severity of a concussion by increasing the blood pressure inside the brain.…

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

Concussions in Football One of my good friends in high school played on the varsity football team. He was no star, and savored every bit of playing time that he received. Unfortunately, he suffered a hit to the head on a play and symptoms popular of concussions crept up. He debated whether he should tell his coaches and know he likely wouldn’t play again for a significant amount of time, or to keep playing and show his teammates he could make a difference.…

In Florida, the government does not do nearly enough to discourage and prevent distracted driving. According to Distracted.gov, In 2014, "3,179 people were killed and 431,000 were injured in motor vehicle accidents involving distracted drivers. " This is an increase to the previous statistics in 2010 from the NHTSA, which stated that, in 2010, "3,092 people were killed in crashes involving distracted drivers and an estimated additional 416,000 were injured in motor vehicle accidents involving distracted drivers." In 2013, a law was issued to help discourage distracted driving as well as campaigns in 2011 and 2015, but to no avail. While others will argue that our government has done all it can to prevent the issue of distracted drivers, our citizens will continue to do.…

As many know, a law making motorcycle helmets mandatory is a controversial topic among many state legislatures. Many argue that motorcycle helmets should be mandatory because they reduce motorcycle accident fatality rates. In a study done by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4,688 people died from motorcycle accidents in the year 2013 alone. NHTSA also estimates that 1,630 lives were saved by helmets, and 715 lives in every state might have been saved had the rider been wearing a motorcycle helmet. Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety said, “In states without an all-rider helmet law, 59% of the motorcyclists killed were not wearing helmets, as opposed to only 8% in states with all-rider helmet laws in 2013.”…
