How To Treat Heart Failure?

Improved Essays
According to American Heart Association, symptoms such as dyspnea, palpitations, or angina can be indicative of a heart failure. Also common symptoms like chronic tiredness, lightheadedness, or lower extremity swelling can be the result of an underlying heart failure (Stern, Behar & Gottlieb, 2003). Physicians (cardiologists) are very concerned when patients report above symptoms as heart failure symptoms surface much after the actual heart failure occurs. Therefore, in an ideal situation, a doctor should be able to detect and treat heart failure much before the symptoms occur. CardioMEMS is the answer to every cardiologist’s prayer. At ORlive.com under the cardiology section, the procedure to implant CardioMEMsTM HF system (Sjm.com, n.d.) is described. In the 1 minute 57 seconds video, an elderly patient named Ray Williamson has had been hospitalized four times in the past two months, and each time, the diagnosis was heart failure. These hospitalizations followed after he complained that his heart was fluttering, and he experienced the same before the present hospitalization too. It …show more content…
In the abovementioned video, cardiologist Bhatt explains that when the heart is unable to pump blood efficiently, the blood pressure rises and the body starts to retain fluid, which eventually manifest as symptoms. Therefore, the treatment goal is to control the blood pressure before related complications occur. CardioMEMS is one such device, which after being implanted in the patient’s body allows the monitoring physician to detect rising blood pressure in the pulmonary artery of the patient. The doctor then can immediately start treating, without waiting for the symptoms to occur. This prevents worsening of the patient’s condition and quick diagnosis of heart failure (Cardiac.broadcastmed.com,

The heart is a complex and vital organ that pumps around 6,000 quarts of blood through the body and beats around 100,000 times a day. Risk factors for congestive heart failure include coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, heart valve disease, cardiomyopathy, cigarette smoking, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Congestive heart failure is a syndrome of a ventricular dysfunction, where the heart is not able to pump enough blood with each beat to meet the oxygen requirements of the heart and other body tissues. The heart starts pumping weaker than normal and the blood moves through the heart at a slower rate and pressure in the heart increases and becomes…

Every day more Doctors are turning to the LVAD ( Left Ventricular Assist Device) as an alternative to a heart transplant. Many people with heart failure are not good candidates for heart transplants and because there are not enough donated hearts, the list has to be narrowed down very carefully to receive a donor heart. The patient may not be considered a good candidate for a heart transplant if they smoke or have an alcohol abuse problem, have an infection, cancer, bad diabetes, or if all organs are not healthy. In fact, it cannot be performed at all if any of those issues are in occurrence.(Michael C. Fishbein, MD "Heart Transplant: Who needs a heart transplant")…

Introduction: Heart Failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome that affects the structural and functional capacity of the ventricle to load or expel blood. According to Ferri (2016, p. 576), the principal symptoms of HF are dyspnea and fatigue which can significantly reduce an individual's exercise tolerance. Due to the various signs and symptoms associated with HF, multiple pharmacotherapies including ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, calcium channel inotropic agents, and diuretics has been utilized to alleviate HF manifestations and prolong the person's life expectancy. In this discussion topic, I will be summarizing a particular class of diuretics that plays a significant role in alleviating the effort the heart has to expend.…

    • Introduction : Congestive heart failure (CHF) is specifically known as congestive cardiac failure (CCF) in the scientific papers. The term ‘’CHF’’ describes a debilitating condition in which the heart 's function as a pump is unable to deliver an adequate amount of rich-oxygen blood to the rest of the body and the fluid builds up in the body and other organs making the heart congested. CHF results from any structural or functional cardiac disorder that weakens the pumping ability of the heart, for instance, congestion of the arteries or a general weakness of the heart muscle caused by having unhealthy life styles. CHF is classified into two types: systolic dysfunction and diastolic dysfunction. The patients who have heart failures commonly experience the symptoms like breathlessness, excessive tiredness, leg swelling, etc.…

Pathophysiology Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a clinical syndrome in which the pumping action of the heart becomes less powerful and fluid builds up forcing it into the lungs causing pulmonary edema or causing edema in the peripheral vascular system. CHF is used interchangeably with Heart failure (HF). HF is characterized by myocardial dysfunction, which is an alteration in ventricular contraction. Myocardial dysfunction can be caused by a result of many different conditions such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, valvular disorders, renal dysfunction, ischemia and myocardial infarction. It can be systolic heart failure in which the heart muscles are weakened and results in decreased blood ejected from the ventricle,…
