and Mrs. van Daan. She developed a relationship with both of them, even though it was not a good one. In the annex, everyone told Anne what she did wrong and that included the van Daan adults. Anne writes about how “Some people, like the van Daans, seem to take special delight not only in raising their own children but in helping others raise theirs.” telling the reader that the van Daans acted as her parents and tried to “help” Mr. and Mrs. Frank rais her by telling them what they would have done and how proper Anne would have been if they raised her(Frank 41). Mr. and Mrs. van Daan would also yell at her at the table, when preparing for dinner, and in their free time. As time went on, the three people began to get along better. In one entry, Anne writes about how Mrs. van Daan and her were fighting. She wrote that “Mrs. van D. didn’t see it my way, but she added that, even though she disagreed, she was willing to back down, and that was an entirely different matter.” which showed that even though they still fought, they did not continue for as long as they did before and that they respected each other more(Frank 235). The final adult in the annex was Mr. Dussel. In the beginning, everyone got along well and Anne even wrote “Just as we thought, Mr. Dussel is a very nice man.”(Frank 67). For a while he was nothing but a new person in the annex. As time went on, he became more and more of a trouble. They found out that he was hiding food, he argued with everyone because he always thought he was right, and he was very mean to Anne most of the time. They were forced to share a room which caused many troubles. One of the biggest was the argument about the table. Mr. Dussel used the small table for most of the day, only letting Anne use it while he napped.
