Legitimacy is defined as the lawfulness or authenticity of something. Nowadays in society, Legitimacy is not matter at all whether an individual is is legitimate or not. People are identified as legitimate by their language, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, behavior. Two ways people are identified, one is by self and by others. We use various markers of status to create a legitimate identity for ourselves such as journal, article, social media, protesting. Society makes a legal document for us to know our identity, such as Identification Card, Social Security Card, Proof of documents, Credit Cards. Even though, defining oneself and others define us do not give the similar outcome because people define us how we appear in front of them

Even Though she is a legitimate individual of American however, it does not make a person an American. If an individual wants to be an American they should act and do whatever the real American does. The fact that, “If you want to be American, speak “American.” If you do not like it, go back to Mexico where you belong(167)” proves how others define us in society. Meaning, American people define others by watching how others speak the English. If an individual does not speak standard or proper language, then, it is easy to figure out who is an immigrant and who is American. Even if, a person does speak Standard English, but not a real American, still that person will get respect from the American because that person is speaking how American speaks otherwise one will be insulted like the author did in front of the whole classroom. When an individual is illegal in a country then, it becomes very difficult for that person to stay there because most of the time, that one have to hide from the reality. Even if, a person is immigrant with legitimacy in America still, American people are going to find weakness in that person because they want others to be standard like them. In our society, others always try to push us to do what they like but never realize it is not that easy to do. Americans always expose the view of Immigrants by saying that they will accept us if follow their culture, speak their language properly, dress like them basically follow their way otherwise they act very badly toward us. Even Though, it is not possible for immigrant to clear the Americans mind of being selfish, however, immigrants can expose their thoughts, feeling and view by writing an intentional journal or protest
