Tackling is an important aspect of the game. You have to tackle so that the opposing team does not catch the ball or score a touchdown. When a player is running down the field, it allows him to gain momentum. For the runner to be stopped, the tackler has to inflict and impulse with greater force. Newton’s three laws of motion are all taking affect when trying to tackle another player. Newton's first law tells us that an object either at motion or at rest tends to stay in that state of motion or rest. The heavier the object, the more it wants to stay in a steady state. The bigger the linebackers are, the harder it is for them to be pushed around. The reason a smaller defender can tackle a bigger running back is because of the player’s center of mass. All of these things are needed to tackle a player moving at a fast pace. There are proper ways to tackle a player so you don’t get hurt. The more techniques you know about tackling the easier it becomes.Momentum is the main factor to tackling an opposing player. NFL plays 15 min a quarter in each game and one player averages a minimum of 7.5 tackles per game. The more someone gets tackled or is tackling someone, the more the risk of them getting hurt is higher. Even though both of the players are affected by the contact, the man with the ball is most likely to get the worse of it. This is because the man that is hitting the ball carrier is coming with more force and when he hits the ground, his helmet is hitting the ground too. You can get concussions or other body injuries when you are tackling or getting tackled. Another way you can get injured or get a concussion is improper tackling. Tackling with your head down can lead to cervical spine injuries and also neck injuries.
