Pitt is happy that the colonies rebelled against the Stamp Act because he thinks the rebellion was justified. He sympathizes with the colonies because the colonies are expressing their discontent towards an unjust taxation. Without a doubt, Pitt believes that England is sovereign over all its lands which includes the colonies, but he makes the distinction that the people in the colonies are not slaves and should not be treated as such. America brought great prosperity towards England and with that, England owes America its protection, not taxation.
